Above the Clouds Retreat

I don't post updates about when we rent our personal home -- www.airbnb.com/h/above-the-clouds-1 -- very often because we don't rent it very often. We, however, decided to rent it for two weeks this summer (5/31-6/15) and again for a month during PEAK foliage season this fall (9/2-10/20). A few nights during both of those time ranges have already been booked so you might want to jump on it quickly.

On a related note, here is a delightful review we got from a recent winter guest at Above the Clouds 1:

"As cheesy as it sounds, Marianne should really call this home “Above and BEYOND the Clouds”. Her place is an absolute gem. Sure, there’s the incredible Mountain Views that are stunning in every type of weather, but that’s just the beginning. Where many airbnbs lack personality, thoughtfulness, and charm - this house has it all. From the fluffiest towels, to the well stocked kitchen, to the slippers and wireless chargers and board games and firewood and most melodic wind chime and curated book collection and spa-like toiletries….I could go on and on. This place is just so easy and delightful at every turn. You can really feel the presence of the owners, in the best way! Speaking of…Marianne was so wonderful to communicate with. She gave amazing recommendations for places to eat and things to do in the area - unprompted - we barely had to plan a thing! Stop looking and book this place!"

"If I could give Marianne and Bob’s place 100000 stars I would. I still haven’t picked my jaw off the ground after seeing the view.. - most amicable, adorable and welcoming hosts (seriously I want to come back and visit just to hang out with them again) - most pristine and immaculate accommodations (I could eat off the floor) - insane views ( The photos do absolutely no justice to how beautiful it is. It is honestly hard to believe you could wake up to a view like this) - did I mention the hosts?? These two should be hired by AirBnB and offer courses on hospitality. Left us bottles of wine, checked in to offer suggestions, provided infinite comfort items, and when a storm occurred during our stay, the hosts were so thoughtful and kind enough to offer to host us longer to ensure we were safe Staying here completely rejuvenated and brought me back to life. I couldn’t thank Marianne and Bob enough for hosting us and being just the most perfect lovable humans ever. STAY HERE!!!"

Today's guests were so inspired by their experience of Above the Clouds that they decided to adopt the practice of passing forward goodness (what they feel Bob and I are doing with Above the Clouds). This is the note they left for the next guest who will also get the $150 these guests left for the next family hoping it will be used to go out to dinner somewhere lovely (they had Michael's on the Hill or Hen of the Woods in mind). They're also hoping their random act of generosity will set off a chain reaction of people passing forward goodness from their hearts. What an honor it is to us that people are so touched by their time here!

"Echoing previous reviews, Above the Clouds II is just a beautiful space to spend time. It ticks all the usual boxes, clean (immaculate), well-appointed, well-laid out, quiet, etc. But it goes way beyond that. From waking up to the beautiful views every day, to having everything you need right at hand to feel cozy and at home; every cooking appliance you could need, beautiful pottery dishes, warm blankets to curl up in to enjoy the porch in the evening, books & maps about the local area, local publications, a fireplace... It is evident everywhere you look that Marianne & Bob have spent time thinking about what would make their guests comfortable. On many vacations my husband and I get up & head out the door for a full day of activities, come back and drop into bed, never really appreciating the place where we are staying. Not this time. Above the Clouds has such a special feel that we didn't feel "guilty" just hanging around the house. Thank you Marianne & Bob for everything!"

"We had a fantastic four days at Above the Clouds II! Words cannot describe just how beautiful this guest house is, and there is nothing like waking up each morning with a panoramic view of the Vermont mountains. Marianne was incredibly responsive, providing us with tips for swimming holes, places to eat, hikes and so on, and when we arrived, there was a complimentary bottle of wine along with snacks (cheese and chocolate!) waiting for us. The location in Moretown is perfect — close to great food and restaurants in Waitsfield and Stowe, but a quiet and lovely retreat for when we tired of being around summer crowds. Our kids (ages 13 and 10) especially enjoyed the rope hammock near the edge of the property, and picking from the raspberry and blueberry bushes along the sides of the driveway. We loved every minute of our stay, and can't wait to come back!"

From the fully stocked picnic basket, well-supplied gourmet kitchen, to the lavender bath scrub in the walk-in shower. It’s a home away from home that feels comfortable and yet indulgent at the same time. And the view is unlike anything else you’ll find even among all the other gems in Vermont. It was an experience that our family will continue to remember fondly for years to come— hoping you get a chance to enjoy this beautiful corner of the world these hosts have created. A 10-year-old guest, who stayed here last summer, painted this for a birthday gift for her father! I've commissioned another to hang in Above the Clouds :) She'll be back again this summer. Can't wait to see what loveliness that visit inspires in this budding artist!
