From a dear friend in the flight industry - great reminder!
To my family and friends flying this Summer…
1. Purchase directly through the airline, not a third party. Third parties are cheaper but then you need to read the fine print. As you are not always protected during delays, cancellations, etc. Really read the fine print when purchasing your tickets, period.
2. Possibly look into travel insurance and decide if it would be worth it for you or your family.
3. If you are traveling with children…don’t. Joking! But seriously don’t book basic “anything” unless you read the fine print. You likely won’t be sitting together and we can’t force people to move for a ticket they purchased to accommodate you.
4. If you have a major event (wedding, cruise, etc.) where your travel dates cannot be flexible…I suggest leaving a day, two or even three before.
5. Don’t book a connecting flight with an unreasonable connection time.
6. Plan your transportation ahead of time, things are filling up or sold out!
7. Get to the airport early. TSA wait times have been unpredictable and LONG at majority of airports.
7. Pack your own snacks and food. Pretty much anything can get through TSA, just not certain liquids. Check out the TSA website for more information.
8. Want to watch a movie with your headphones, need your phone charger, want to read a book? Please have those items somewhat ready before boarding. Please don’t stand in the aisle rearranging everything, blocking other people from boarding.
9. Bring a blanket. Don’t dress like a hoochie koochi. It’ll be hot on the airplane during boarding but it’s going to be cold during the flight.
10. BE NICE!!
11. Buddy passes are useless in the summertime. Just buy a ticket✈️
Your Flight Crews are working maximum monthly guarantees, maximum duty days, reroute after reroute and getting worked into our off days. We know what we signed up for with this job but staffing is short at every airline and screaming at us doesn’t solve anything. Please be thankful for the ones that showed up!
