We were mugged by 4 humpbacks yesterday!

A mugging occurs when a humpback purposefully approaches the boat and hangs out for a bit.

It's one of the most special situations we experience on our trips!

Getting to see a humpback (or in this case 4 humpbacks) this close is an awe-inducing experience, and we feel lucky to get to share this wonder with our guests!

If you're in Morro Bay for the long weekend, now is a great time to book a whale watching trip with Morro Bay Whale Watching!

Humpbacks are truly magnificent creatures!

While we love whale watching all year long, there's something really special about the seasons when we get to watch these friendly whales put on a show on most of our trips ๐Ÿ‹

And fortunately for us (and anyone interested in seeing some humpbacks), humpback season tends to last through November here in Morro Bay!

If you're itching to see these whales in action, head to our website at the link in bio or give us a call at (805)772-9463 to book your spots on an upcoming trip!

We hope to see you soon ๐ŸŒŠ

This playful humpback delighted our passengers! We watched this young humpback do countless tail slaps and peduncle throws for about half an hour ๐Ÿ‹

Humpback whales are well known and beloved worldwide for doing these kind of playful, charismatic activities. They do them more than any other large whale species.

Maybe youโ€™ll get a playful whale when you come on one of our daily tours ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Look at this HUGE ocean sunfish! ๐Ÿ
This bizarre fish drifted right up alongside our boat yesterday. Sunfish are not uncommon to see along the California coast, but to get such close looks at such a large one is a rare treat ๐Ÿ˜

Ocean sunfish (Mola mola) hold 2 different records. They are the largest boney fish, getting up to 6,000 lbs ๐Ÿคฏ. They also lay the most eggs ๐Ÿฅš of any vertebrate, up to 300 million at one time! They are related to pufferfish ๐Ÿก, and feed on jellyfish ๐Ÿชผand other gelatinous organisms. They commonly lay on the surface like this to warm up and let birds pick parasites off them.

Learn more about these and other ocean life on one of our daily tours ๐Ÿ˜Š

Minke whale on yesterday's trip!

Minke whales are the smallest baleen whales in our part of the world, weighing up to 10 tons and measuring up to 35 feet in length - so smallest, but not exactly small.

It's always fun to see something we don't see everyday on our whale watching trips!

Consider coming out with us on an ocean adventure soon - you never know what you might see!

Are you looking for a special activity to do with your loved ones? A way to make treasured family memories?
Or to explore the central coast in a new way? Consider one of our tours. We offer whale (and dolphin) watching, bay tours with underwater windows, cocktail cruises, bird watching tours, and private charters.

Get on our boat and get up close with some of the most amazing wildlife anywhere! Not behind glass or bars, but in their natural habitat. Some of the animals, like these short-beaked common dolphins, actually want to interact with us because they find it fun the ride the pressure wave the boat pushes .

Some fun facts about them:

Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) are the fastest dolphins, hitting speeds of up to 37 mph.

Shed their outer layer of skin up to 12 times/day to stay smooth and streamline.

Highly social and often seen in pods of hundreds to thousands.

5-9ft long, medium size for dolphins.

Feed primarily at night on schooling fish ๐ŸŸ & squid ๐Ÿฆ‘.

Found in tropical and temperate waters worldwide ๐ŸŒŽ
