We see orcas only rarely here in Morro Bay and yesterday they were just outside the entrance!

There are primarily two types of Orca pods, residential- that stay in a localized area, and transient - that travel looking for prey.

It’s always a special day when the Orcas show up for us! We don’t know how long they’ll be hanging around but if you want to try to catch them, call 805-772-9463 to book!

Although we saw numerous humpback whales yesterday, it was the dolphins that stole the show! A super pod of short-beaked common dolphins was racing around the Estero Bay. Activity in the bay has been ramping up a lot in the last couple weeks and it’s really starting to feel like summer. We’re seeing tons of bait fish 🐟, which leads to feeding frenzies of whales, sea lions, dolphins, and sea birds. It’s like National Geographic out there!

We had one of our best ”muggings” ever yesterday! Conditions were calm and we started out with whales scattered all around us, but soon a pair of humpbacks decided to do some people watching. They came right over to us and stared up at our enthralled passengers, their huge mouths appearing to smile at us 🐳😊Looking in their eyes, we could feel the incredible intelligences and empathy of such amazing creatures.

Conditions are calm through the holiday week and the whale are here in numbers right now. Add whale watching to your Memorial Day weekend itinerary.

We managed to get this amazing underwater footage of a humpback whale during a recent “mugging” we experienced. Three humpbacks came over to say hello, looking up at the passengers through clear water and doing playful rolls. 🥹

Conditions on the water look perfect the next few days, increasing our chances for amazing experiences like this. We have tours running daily in the morning and afternoon, so come out and join the whales with us 🐳
