Yesterday, 6/30/25, our 12:30 trip was lucky enough to get to watch an incredibly active group of humpback whales. We couldn’t count how many breaches we saw! Our captain and naturalist both said that a couple of the breaches were perhaps the closest they’d ever been to a breach. Of course we always follow all guidelines when driving our vessel around whales, and we turn our engine into neutral, but the whales didn’t seem to get the 100 yard memo! We were constantly keeping our heads on a swivel as we were surrounded by active surface behaviors. In addition to breaching, we also got to see tail throwing, pec slapping, chin slapping, and rolling. In total we probably saw about 20+ humpbacks!

It’s lunge-time! 🥪 Today both our 9:30 and 12:30 trips were delighted to find about 20+ humpback whales feeding, diving, pec slapping, and tail throwing. 🌊 Our 9:30 trip also got to see Risso’s dolphins and a harbor porpoise! 🐬 There is SO much action in the bay right now! The fog has definitely been increasing 📈 but that does not stop the whales from needing to eat! 🍽️

6-23: What a special day we had out on the water today here on !

On our 9:30am trip, we were lucky to find two , one of whom was rolling around.

Our 12:30pm trip really got a show! We encountered roughly 15 , saw three breaches (one of which was right off to our bow) and spent a significant chunk of the trip with one in particular who displayed a large scar between their dorsal fin and peduncle. Seeing large scars on our reminds us of the resilience, determination, and sheer grit of these dynamic creatures.

Have you seen this whale before?

How many species can you spot in this first picture? 👀 Today’s trip was nicknamed 🐬“Dolphin Day”🐬 as we spotted a total of four species of dolphins, as well as a humpback whale! Our trip started off by immediately catching two bottlenose dolphins right outside the harbor. We continued on to find a large number of scattered Risso’s dolphins, who were joined by the sleek northern right whale dolphins as well as the charismatic pacific white sided dolphins. We also got to see huge numbers of sooty shearwaters and even a black footed albatross. Today’s trip was a great example of the rich biodiversity found here in the Monterey Bay.

6-19 - 9:30am Trip: It was a beautiful windy, but sunny day on . We started our trip with a mom/calf pair. The calf was engaging in some typical calf surface behavior and did a couple tail throws for us too! On our way back to , just outside the harbor, we spotted and stopped for a juvenile and ended up getting quite the show: repetitive breaches and pectoral flipper slapping! It was a great end to the trip!

Today was pure magic on the water aboard Goddess Fantasy!

Both our 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM trips were treated to unforgettable encounters, with around 15 humpback whales spotted on each tour.

We observed two distinct groups on each tour, including a close encounter with four humpbacks just outside the harbor, and another spectacular scene further out where 10+ whales were actively feeding alongside a massive raft of several hundred California sea lions. One guest said it felt like they’d stepped into a nature documentary — and we couldn’t agree more. Days like today are a powerful reminder of the rich, thriving marine life here in Monterey Bay.

6/7 - 9:30am Trip: It was a cool clear brisk morning with calm seas as we headed out into . We saw one lone feeding right outside harbor. We then headed south to where there were a good number of feeding at depth alongside a large raft of sea lions.
