Around here, we know some of the best visitors have four paws, wagging tails and a nose for adventure! From strolling Downtown Mount Airy and exploring the greenway to posing for the perfect Mayberry photo, these pups prove there’s plenty to sniff out in our little corner of North Carolina. 🐾

‼️ Riverside Park is OPEN! ‼️ 🌳💚

We’re happy to share some great news from Mount Airy! Thanks to an incredible community effort, Riverside Park has reopened, along with the Granite City Greenway from Riverside Park to Technology Lane. 🚲🥾

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and helped with Saturday’s cleanup, organized by Kegan Hornaday—including North Surry students, local Scouts, members of Sanctuary Church, and many other community-minded volunteers. We’re also grateful for the continued hard work of the City of Mount Airy Grounds Maintenance and Public Works teams.

There is still cleanup work to be done, but seeing our community come together to care for a place enjoyed by residents and visitors alike is what the Mayberry spirit is all about. ❤️

The newest episode of Mayberry Unscripted is ready for takeoff! This week, we’re joined by Jeanette Hege, Airport Operations Supervisor at the Mount Airy–Surry County Airport, for a conversation that takes us from the cockpit to the community.

Jeanette shares stories from her fascinating career as a pilot, including her years in corporate aviation, what brought her back home to Surry County, and what it’s like working at our local airport today. We also talk about the airport’s exciting growth, increased flight activity, the new terminal, flight school, The Updraft Kitchen, and why this local asset plays such an important role in tourism and economic development.

Plus, there are plenty of laughs, flying stories and a little debate over which members of the tourism team are brave enough to actually go up in a plane with Jeanette. 😅
