What a way to celebrate a grand opening. ☀️🌿

Yesterday, we joined Daybreak Yoga Collective and ROOTS CAFE at 430 N. Alexander Street to officially welcome their new shared space to downtown Mount Dora.

Daybreak brings yoga, meditation, workshops, teacher training and a real focus on connection and community, while Roots Café serves up plant-forward breakfast and lunch, coffee, smoothies, cold-pressed juices and plenty of reasons to stay awhile after class.

That “stay awhile” idea is really at the heart of what they’ve created here — not just a yoga studio or a café, but a place designed for people to move, eat, gather and connect.

And the timing couldn’t have been better: 407 Orlando on FOX stopped by to feature the new concept on the same day as the grand opening celebration.

Congratulations to Mary Beth Wallis, Chef Sede Clark and the entire Daybreak + Roots team. We’re excited to see this new chapter take root in Mount Dora. 💛

RING THE BELL. 🔔

Pitmasters & Pourers is back this Saturday, and this year Mount Dora is making it a FREE waterfront main event.

From 3–9 PM, Elizabeth Evans Park will be packed with BBQ, bacon, beer, food vendors, live music and professional wrestling — all leading up to a 300-drone light show over Lake Dora.

Russ Rollins and Amber Nova are bringing the wrestling action, Thompson Square takes the stage, and Naome Bradshaw & The Dot Coms keep the music going into the evening. The day also includes a Salute to Veterans & First Responders, with T-Roy of 104.5 The Beat hosting.

So yes, you can spend Saturday eating BBQ by the lake, watching wrestling, catching a free concert and ending the night under 300 drones.

That’s a pretty strong card.

Saturday, September 12 | 3–9 PM
Elizabeth Evans Park | 100 N. Donnelly Street, Mount Dora
FREE admission

Zoinks! Mount Dora may have been waiting for Mystery Inc. this whole time.

With Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! celebrating its 57th anniversary this week, we started looking around town and realized Mount Dora already has nearly everything a classic episode would need.

A Victorian mansion overlooking downtown. A 42-room estate. A historic hotel dating to the 1800s. Real paranormal investigations. A lighthouse. The Dora Canal. And yes, a restaurant called The Goblin Market.

So we turned the idea into our latest Meet Me in Mount Dora story — a playful look at the real places around town that feel surprisingly perfect for a Scooby-Doo mystery.

One of the best parts of exploring the Mount Dora area is how quickly the scenery can change.

A short drive from downtown brings you into the rolling hills of Howey-in-the-Hills and Mission Resort + Club, where Conquistador Bar & Restaurant offers a completely different kind of dining experience.

Inspired by the resort’s storied past and the spirit of exploration, Conquistador is full of details worth taking in — handcrafted tile, cowhide accents, warm textures and vibrant greenery — with a menu that gives you just as much to explore.

Think seafood paella, Piquillo Salmon, Heritage Pork Chop, steaks, shareable plates, citrus-bright seafood and wood-kissed mains, along with fresh Florida ingredients, herbs from the resort’s chef garden and garden-to-glass cocktails.

It’s the kind of place where dinner can easily become the evening: settle in for a cocktail, share a few plates and enjoy a setting that feels worlds away from downtown, even though Mount Dora is just up the road.

And through September 30, Conquistador is participating in Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining, offering a three-course dinner for $40 per person.

For a different taste of the Mount Dora area, follow the hills to Howey-in-the-Hills.

Mount Dora has a three-time world champion waiting to be discovered inside a little 1925 house on Donnelly Street.

Tonys Seafood Chowder House is home to Tony’s Cedar Key Clam Chowder, which won the Great Chowder Cook-Off in Newport, Rhode Island three years in a row — 2009, 2010 and 2011 — before earning a place in the competition’s Hall of Fame.

The recipe was created by Chef Eric Jungklaus at Tony’s original Cedar Key restaurant after years spent living in New England and tasting chowders throughout the Northeast. Today, that same recipe is served right here in downtown Mount Dora.

Tony’s itself is cozy, casual and full of nautical details and vintage character, with indoor and outdoor seating. And while chowder is what made the name famous, the menu also includes fried fish and shrimp, crab cakes, lobster rolls, scallops, salmon, po’boys, hush puppies and more.

There’s something new coming, too. By the end of October, Tony’s plans to launch a completely redesigned website with online ordering for pickup.

So if your Mount Dora itinerary usually starts with “where should we eat?” here’s one answer with a pretty good story attached:

Come find the little seafood restaurant serving world-champion clam chowder right in downtown Mount Dora.

A sushi restaurant in downtown Mount Dora has spent nearly a decade proving that a roll can be just the beginning. 🍣

At WAVE Asian Bistro & Sushi, sushi has become burgers, tacos, donuts, push pops, pizza, hot dogs and the now-famous Sushi Crunch Wrap, helping the restaurant build a national following and land on Good Morning America.

But the story starts right here in Mount Dora. Owner and chef Jonathan McKinney grew up learning sushi in his family’s local restaurants before opening WAVE in 2017 and creating a place where he could take the craft in a completely different direction.

Our latest Meet Me in Mount Dora dives into that story, the viral creations that made WAVE famous and what you can order today.

And if you need another reason to visit, Wednesdays mean $5 hand rolls, so make it a weekly stop.

Something very different is starting at The Mount Dora Bistro this September. 🍸🎷

Start with Apéro: one full hour of open bar, canapés and live saxophone on Fridays and Saturdays.

And that’s just the beginning.

The Bistro’s new weekend lineup brings cabaret, comedy, supper club-style dinners, private-chef wine experiences, drag performances, bingo, live entertainment and Club Privé nights with music and dancing into the heart of downtown Mount Dora.

Some experiences begin as early as 4 p.m., meaning a visit can start with cocktails and canapés, move into dinner and a show, and keep going well into the evening.

It’s a major new chapter for The Mount Dora Bistro — and another reason to make a full afternoon or night out of downtown Mount Dora.

Our newest Meet Me in Mount Dora takes you inside the September lineup and what the Bistro is building next.

Donnelly Street is getting some statewide love. 👏

Uncovering Florida included Mount Dora’s own Donnelly Street among its “15 Timeless Florida Streets That Remain Must-Visit Gems Across the State,” alongside famous destinations from Key West, St. Augustine, Miami Beach and beyond.

The article highlights what makes downtown Mount Dora so special: historic character, locally owned shops, restaurants, public art, festivals, walkability and Lake Dora just steps away.

Those of us who spend our days here already know Donnelly is much more than a street — it’s one of the main arteries of our downtown and home to so many of the businesses and experiences that give Mount Dora its personality.

We love seeing it recognized among some of Florida’s most memorable streets.
