π«‘ Memorial Waterfront Park is dedicated to honoring local war veterans and first responders. πΊπΈ
The War Memorial features the names of war veterans from Mount Pleasant who gave the ultimate sacrifice in battle. Overlooking the memorial is a sculpture, designed by Raymond Kaskey, who also created the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., of a grieving woman holding a flag in one arm and the Soldierβs Cross in the other.
The First Responders monument pays tribute to firefighters, police officers, and public service employees who serve our community and features a large bell suspended by a replica of the Cooper River Bridge towers. The Vaughn Ed Kee monument is dedicated to Officer Vaughn Ed Kee, who paid the ultimate price while serving and protecting the Mount Pleasant community in 1985.
The newest addition to the park is the September 11th monument, honoring the victims of the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks. It features a piece of the I-beam from the World Trade Center.
