Mount Shasta has been serving up a little bit of everything this week. 🌨️💨☀️

Just days ago, our teams were navigating rain, snow, wind, and challenging mountain conditions. Today, climbers are enjoying beautiful weather, great snow conditions, and incredible views from high on the mountain.

It's a great reminder of how quickly conditions can change in the mountains and why preparation, and flexibility matter.

Whether it's stormy or bluebird, we're grateful for every opportunity to help climbers experience Mount Shasta.

“Do you still climb if it’s snowing?”

This photo answers that question pretty well. 😄❄️

Mount Shasta, Mount Whitney, and most mountains around the world are subject to rapidly changing weather. Part of mountaineering is learning how to move through and endure wind, snow, freezing temperatures, and less-than-perfect conditions.

We monitor weather and mountain conditions very closely, and if conditions become truly hazardous, we absolutely will cancel or reschedule trips. But generally speaking, cold, snowy, or windy weather alone usually isn’t enough to stop a climb.

And with today being National Burger Day, there’s no better post-summit reward than stopping at Yaks on the 5 for a burger after getting rimed up on the mountain. 🍔🏔️

Today we pause to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to others.

Mountains have a way of reminding us how small we are, how precious time is, and how important it is to move through life with purpose and gratitude.

We’re thankful for the freedoms that allow us to explore wild places, gather with good people, and pursue meaningful experiences outdoors.

From all of us at SWS Mountain Guides, thank you and you'll never be forgotten.

Mount Shasta is climbing really well right now!

We’re still seeing overnight freezes, good crampon conditions in the mornings, and classic late spring conditions higher on the mountain.

This is one of the best times of year to be out here. Early alpine starts, long summit days, and the kind of conditions that help people build mountain skills that can be used on other big objectives.

“How’s Mount Shasta climbing right now?”

Pretty darn good!
While warm temps have melted the lower elevation snow and opened summer trails, the mountain is still holding good snow coverage up high.

We’re currently guiding on:
Avalanche Gulch
Casaval Ridge
West Face
Hotlum-Bolam Ridge

Clear Creek Road also recently opened, which means access to the south side is now open.

If you’ve been wondering if it's a good Shasta season - yeah, it is! and it's really good right now!
