I’ve only visited two cruise line private islands so far—Perfect Day at CocoCay and MSC’s Ocean Cay—and while I enjoyed both, Ocean Cay is still my favorite. 🌴💙 We always have such a great time there.
If you’re sailing there soon, here are a few things I wish I knew before my first visit:
☀️ The tram service isn’t the greatest, so be prepared to walk a little. The good news is that the beach closest to the ship is beautiful, so you don’t have to go far to have a great day.
🍔 Lunch is included and usually has burgers, chicken, corn, fruit, and other easy options. If you want something a little extra, they also sell lobster rolls.
🍹 Your drink package works on the island, and Wi-Fi does too. Just don’t expect amazing service—I’ve always found the connection to be pretty spotty.
🌴 There isn’t a ton of natural shade, especially near the lighthouse beach, so pack sunscreen and plan accordingly.
🐠 If you have snorkel gear, bring it! I’ve seen colorful fish every single time I’ve visited.
🏖️ Don’t forget your towels from the ship because they aren’t provided on the island.
🚢 One thing I love about Ocean Cay is that it’s not a tender port. The walk off the ship is easy, and getting back on is quick too—especially nice if your ship is there late or overnight.
