MOUNTAIN HERITAGE MUSIC CAMP: for rising 2nd–12th graders
July 14-17 | 1:00–4:00 PM
Johnson County Center for the Arts’ Gallery on Main
129 W Main St., Mountain City, TN

Instructors: Tim Lewis, Lois Dunn, Kenny Price, Janet Mahala, and other guest musicians

Take your picking to the next level. Join us for Mountain Music Makers Camp, an immersive week of Appalachian music led by seasoned musicians and tradition bearers. Students will explore the musical heritage of the mountains while building skills on guitar, banjo, fiddle, and bass. Throughout the week, campers will learn traditional songs and tunes, improve their technique, and gain confidence performing with others. In addition to instrument instruction, students will work on singing in harmony, ensemble playing, stage presence, microphone technique, rhythm, and musicianshipβ€”all the skills needed to become a stronger performer and band member. Whether you're just getting started or already playing regularly, this camp offers a supportive environment where young musicians can grow, make new friends, and experience the joy of traditional mountain music. One of these paintings will be selected to hang on the Visitor’s Center of the new Mosier Building and receive a $250 commission from the Tennessee 250 Grant!

Call for Artists: Liberty & Legacy Community Art Show

Join us for a special community art show honoring the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America. This exhibit invites local artists to share works that celebrate, reflect on, or are inspired by this historic milestone. The opening reception will be held on July 4 with the time TBA.

Artist Guidelines:
Open to local artists of all experience levels
All entries must be handmade, original works in any medium
Artwork should celebrate or reflect on the 250th anniversary in a positive, respectful, and family-friendly manner
To ensure a welcoming environment for all visitors, overtly political or controversial themes will not be accepted, as determined by gallery staff
Presentation Requirements:
All 2-D work must be framed or gallery-wrapped and ready to hang
Submission Deadline:
Entries must be delivered to the gallery no later than June 16 at 5:00 PM
Help us commemorate this important anniversary through creativity, community, and shared history.

Looking for something to do on a Tuesday night?

Come on out this evening for this season's first Mountain Music Jam on the Pickin' Porch. Johnson County JAM kids and instructors will start us off at 6pm, and then other traditional music bands will take turns pickin' until 8pm. If you come hungry, we'll have Lois's soup beans and cornbread or hotdogs. See you there!
P.S.- This event takes place in the back yard at the Gallery on Main. If it rains, we'll move inside!
