Miners Castle Snowmobile Trail 422 to Open This Winter!
We’re thrilled to announce that the Miners Castle Snowmobile Trail 422 will open this winter along H-58 for its 0.8-mile stretch, following a successful agreement with the Alger County Road Commission.
After constructive discussions, the Road Commission acknowledged the lack of alternative routes and approved the trail’s use on H-58, subject to an annual $1,000 permit fee. The SORVA of Alger County club is dedicated to preserving snowmobile program funds and will cover this fee through local fundraising efforts, ensuring no impact on the program’s budget.
While we believe road-related costs should be funded through road budgets, SORVA of Alger County will meet the permit requirements. We are actively reviewing relevant laws to advocate for a sustainable, equitable solution that supports our snowmobile community.
Gratitude for Community Support
This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of many individuals and organizations:
Munising Area Visitors Bureau: Special thanks to Cori Anne Cearly, whose advocacy on the Road Commission board was instrumental in securing this agreement.
Scott LaCombe: As a Road Commission board member, Scott’s thorough research and motion to approve the trail under the permit agreement were pivotal.
Representative Karl Bohnak: Karl has been a steadfast supporter, exploring road funding options and engaging directly in discussions to drive solutions for our community.
Congressman Jack Bergman: His impactful letter to the Road Commission and his staff’s ongoing support have been invaluable.
MISORVA: As a key partner, MISORVA’s leadership, including our SORVA of Alger County President (Region 1, District 2 Director) and an interim Vice President, has provided critical guidance. We’re grateful for the support from Karen, Gina, and MISORVA’s directors and executives.
ACSA: The American Council of Snowmobile Associations has offered essential feedback and kept their membership informed, amplifying our efforts.
EUPMTA: Led by Don Reed, former MSA/MISORVA President, this organization has provided guidance and direct involvement in negotiations, strengthening our case.
Snowmobilers and Community Members: Your signatures on petitions, letters, and presence at meetings made this possible. Your support is the backbone of this victory!
