CLOSED: After more than 30 years of offering kayak trips along the beautiful Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore the owner has retired as of the 2024 season and we are no longer providing guided kayak tours.

Our last day of tours for this season was Monday 9/4. This has been such a fun and rewarding summer. We have met so many amazing people. It's such a blessing to have the opportunity to share this beauty with everyone. We look forward to the 2024 season, to do it all again!

Today was Izzy's last trip as a guide for Northern Waters for the summer of 2023 (unless Nancy can convince her to spend a spare day or so...). Does this also end her career as a professional photographer? Does it count as professional if you use other people's equipment?

Today the guides got to train and learn about the Pictured Rocks cliffs while paddling along them. More waves and swimming in ice cold water (brrrr).

We are still training our new guides. Today we got them out on Lake Superior to challenge their new skills in wind and waves.

Helping others has rewards

This wild Kingfisher's grandparent, I found in the garden, nearly dead, some years ago. Nursed him back to health, and set him free. The next morning, the family swooped down, past me, in gratitude.
A couple of years later, I awoke to find the next generation, a parent of this bird, waiting for me on the terrace, his wing seemed broken. I picked him up and examined him. He never flinched, and stared deeply into my eyes. A thorn had locked his wing from operating. I pulled it out, and set him free. Without fail, he passes my window every day at the same time, crying out to me.
This baby, sat in the tree, eye to eye with me, then flew directly to my hand, and sat there for several minutes, before flying away.
Intuition, compassion, good intent, those essences of love, was all we had. Pure, unspoken.

An energy that has no end, and passes silently onward, much further than we can imagine
