Today, New London came together at Customs House Pier to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage, service, and sacrifice that followed. 🇺🇸

The Sea Services 9/11 Remembrance & Flag Retirement Ceremony marked 25 years since the attacks, with reflections from our sea services, the tolling of eight bells, and the honoring of Old Glory.

Here in Coast Guard City New London, our connection to the sea is more than history. It is service, community, and remembrance.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

WESTERLY PERFORMING ARTS TOUR 🎭
September 19, 2026
10:00am

The Westerly Performing Arts Tour is a guided, 90-minute experience for young performers ready to explore everything our downtown arts scene has to offer. Visit three cornerstone organizations, The United Theatre , The Granite Theatre, and The Chorus of Westerly, and get an inside look at how they train, present, and collaborate to bring the performing arts to life year-round.

Along the way, you’ll hear directly from artists and educators about classes, performance opportunities, and how you can get involved in the season ahead.

We begin under The UNITED marquee with a behind-the-scenes tour of the theatre and United Music School, where you’ll learn about its world-class training programs for a wide range of ages, skill levels, and instruments.

From there, we head through the scenic paths of Wilcox Park to the Granite Theatre, where you’ll step onstage and learn how theatre training builds confidence, strengthens communication skills, and supports overall academic and personal growth.

The tour continues up the road to Kent Hall, home of The Chorus of Westerly, where you’ll learn about its nationally recognized choral training programs and how singers of all ages build musicianship, vocal technique, and ensemble artistry. We’ll wrap up back downtown, ready for you to take the next step in your performing arts journey.

Sign up today and discover where your creativity can take you!

Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

As we reflect for the 25th anniversary of September 11, we pause to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage of the first responders and everyday heroes who stepped forward in the face of unimaginable tragedy. We remember, we honor, and we will never forget. This morning, 🇺🇸 Relay For America 🇺🇸 passed thru Groton, CT with "Reclaim the Route"

"Reclaim the Route" is a 9/11 Memorial Relay, organized by Relay For America.
The purpose of this continuous, 227.75-mile journey is to honor the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the responders lost since. Runners physically retrace the path that the two hijacked planes (American Airlines Flight 11 and United Flight 175) intended to take from Boston to New York. By running this path on the ground, participants aim to reclaim the route from a legacy of destruction, transforming it into a journey of hope, remembrance, and American unity.
The flag moves day and night, without a stop, from the 9/11 Memorial in the Boston Public Garden to Greenwich Street in Lower Manhattan. Each of the 25 segments is 9.11 miles. One group runs its segment, hands the flag to the next, and the next group carries it on: south through Providence, down the Rhode Island shore, along the Connecticut coast through New London, New Haven, Bridgeport and Stamford, into the Bronx, and down through Manhattan to the World Trade Center site.
Twenty-five segments for twenty-five years. The last one finishes at 8:30 a.m. on September 11.
