People always ask if we take the time off when we’re not fishing… nope the work never stops. We have been busy pairing and prepping the boats for the season as well as USCG haul out and dry dock inspections. All boats have passed with flying colors and we can’t wait to get everyone back on the water!

Today is World Whale Day!🐋

Here are 10 ways whales make the world a better place:

1. Connect Ocean Ecosystems

Whales migrate thousands of miles, distributing nutrients between different ocean regions, from the tropics to the poles.

2.Whale P**p Feeds the Ocean

Whale f***s are rich in nutrients like iron and nitrogen, fertilizing phytoplankton, which forms the base of the marine food web.

3. They Help Fight Climate Change

Whales act as carbon sinks, storing large amounts of carbon in their bodies. When they die, their bodies sink to the ocean floor, sequestering carbon for centuries.

4. Boost Phytoplankton Growth

By diving and surfacing (a process called the whale pump), whales circulate nutrients that help phytoplankton thrive, which produces at least 50% of the Earth's oxygen.

5. Maintain Healthy Fish Populations

By stirring up the ocean and moving nutrients, whales support the growth of fish populations, benefiting both marine ecosystems and global fisheries.

6. Provide Habitat for Other Species

When whale carcasses sink (whale falls), they create deep-sea ecosystems that can sustain life for decades, feeding scavengers like hagfish and crabs.

7. Enhance Marine Biodiversity

As apex species, whales help regulate populations of prey like krill and squid, keeping marine ecosystems in balance.

8. Support Coastal Economies

Whale-watching tourism generates billions of dollars worldwide and provides sustainable jobs in coastal communities.

9. Inspire Art, Science, and Culture.

Whales have influenced mythology, literature (Moby-Dick), conservation efforts, and modern scientific research.

10. They Show Us the Importance of Conservation

Whale populations have rebounded due to global conservation efforts, proving that we can protect nature when we take action. Let’s continue to work together to keep whales alive and free!

Merry Christmas from everyone at the Fleet!!
Back on the grounds on Friday!!

Friday's trip was a little rocky but Captain Cole kept as steady as possible for us. We spent most of the time with a pair of humpback whales. Here is a quick video of a fluke slap. They rested on the surface for several minutes and dove for longer periods of time. They repeated this behavior the whole time we spent with them.

We are sailing today at 1pm! We have had some great sightings of humpback whales. Join us!

Yesterday was a truly an amazing trip!! It started out a little rough. There was no wind but we were traveling against the waves so it was quite bumpy. Capt. Frank tried his best to make the ride as smooth as possible. As we made our way out to the grounds, we began to see a lot of birds and then suddenly we saw blows off in the distance. Once we reached the area, whales were everywhere. There was tons of fish in the area. We saw humpback whales breach multiple times, tail slapping, bubble feeding. A pair surfaced right near the boat as we sat idle watching a different pair. 20-30 humpbacks were in the area. And several minke whales were hanging out too. Minkes are usually fast moving but we observed several near the boat for long periods of time.
So much activity all around the boat. Even as we were leaving, we watched several more breaches. It was an amazing experience! Passengers and crew marveled in delight. One thing to note, we didn't see any fin backs. If you have any great pix or video from yesterday please feel free to post it. Thank you for all who went out on our first whale watch of the season! More to come!!

Today's cloudy weather won't stop us from starting our first trip of the season. We've received promising reports of whales in the area that we usually frequent. We hope to see you today or another day this season!
