OUT OF OFFICE (and kind of a big one)

Okay friends, a little life update. On October 1st I’m having a hysterectomy, which is a very fancy way of saying my uterus is officially being evicted. Decades of noise complaints, never once paid rent, and no ma’am, she is NOT getting her deposit back.

But I’d be lying if I said it was all jokes over here. This same uterus gave me my two beautiful babies, and I don’t take that lightly for one second. She also gave me years of pain that most people never saw. I built my whole life around it. Planned trips around it, ran businesses around it, smiled through a lot of hard days and just kept going. So I’m sitting in this really strange spot where I’m grieving and celebrating at the exact same time. Grateful for what she gave me, relieved to finally let go of what she took. I’m learning both can be true.

Now for the business-y part. I’ll be out of office for a few weeks while I heal (and become one with my couch). So if you’ve been dreaming about that trip... the anniversary one, the big family one, the “we keep saying next year” one... NOW is the time to get on my books! I’d love to get your plans rolling before I head in so everything’s in motion while I’m resting up.

January is the month nobody books and everybody should.

POV: it’s snowing at home but you’re in a lagoon in Iceland.

Here’s what I’d pick for January 2027 —

→ Iceland. Northern lights season, lagoons that make you forget your body has problems, and a country that’s genuinely better in the dark.

→ Southern hemisphere summer. Everyone at home is in a coat and you’re not.

→ Somewhere warm and shockingly empty, because the holiday crowd went home and February hasn’t shown up yet.

January is the post-holiday reset that people always mean to take and never plan. It’s cheaper, it’s quieter, and it’s four months out — which means it’s actually still bookable.

I’m designing an Iceland celebration trip for January right now and I am, frankly, jealous.

I flew to Japan alone when I was 11.

Not with a group. Not with a chaperone. Eleven years old, a boarding pass, and my aunt waiting on the other end.

Which, in my family, was not considered a big deal. My dad’s aunts and uncles all hosted exchange students, or were exchange students, so seeing the world wasn’t presented to me as a reward or a someday, it was just what people did, like getting a driver’s license. Nobody thought putting me on that plane was remarkable. I have thought about it every day since.

And my aunt didn’t do the postcard version. She showed me REAL Japan. A meal in someone’s home, at their table, with their family, where I understood roughly none of the conversation and it didn’t matter. A martial arts academy. A school, where I got to sit with kids my own age and discover that eleven-year-olds are eleven-year-olds everywhere.

I have never emotionally recovered. In the best way.

That’s the trip that made me this. The one where I figured out that the world isn’t scary, it’s just… unfamiliar for about four hours, and then it’s yours.

It’s why I’m not precious about traveling with kids. It’s why “we couldn’t possibly, not with a toddler” makes me want to book you a flight out of spite. And it’s why every itinerary I build has a layer in it that says: here’s the part nobody tells you.

I’ve been doing this since I was eleven. You just get to hire me now.

A client wrote me this week about Italy for their 10th anniversary, and one line stopped me:

"We've been chatting and looking at how to narrow down all the places we want to see."

Friend. Put the list down. That's my job.

Here's the thing nobody tells you about Italy: the country will happily let you ruin your own trip. There's enough there to fill a lifetime, so a 12-day list becomes a 30-day list without you noticing, and then you spend your anniversary in a train station.

How I actually narrow it:

1. What's the trip FOR? A 10th anniversary is not a sightseeing trip. It's a slow-mornings, long-dinners, remember-why-you-like-each-other trip. That single answer eliminates half the list immediately.

2. Three bases, max. Usually two. In 10–12 days, every additional city costs you the better part of a day in packing, transit, and check-in. Three cities in 12 days is a real trip. Five is a highlight reel you're too tired to enjoy.

3. Pick the ONE non-negotiable each. You get one. Your partner gets one. We build outward from there, and suddenly the trip has a shape instead of a shopping list.

4. Leave one day completely empty. Every time. It's always the day people tell me about afterward. WANDER, find a hidden gem antique shop, heck stay in bed!

The narrowing IS the design. If you're sitting there with 14 tabs open trying to cut your own list — that's the part you're supposed to hand off.

Milestone trips for next September are booking now. If you've got an anniversary, a big birthday, or a "we always said we would" sitting on the calendar

Just hit send on the most complex itinerary I’ve ever built… and I’m feeling ALL the feelings. 🥹🤍

36 days. 4 countries. 13 flights, hotels, vouchers, train tickets, ferry timetables, a rental car, private guides in two languages… and one very patient, very wonderful client at the center of it all.

Glenn leaves Monday for a full month in Europe. Riga’s Old Town. W**e country in Austria’s Wachau Valley. A castle day in Liechtenstein. And the part I love most… two entire weeks living like a local in Kitzbühel. No rushing, no checklist. Just settling in, finding his bakery, and letting a little Alpine town become home for a while.

Was it the longest, most layered trip I’ve ever planned?

Absolutely.

Were there plot twists?

Oh, there were plot twists. 🙃

But when a client trusts you with 36 days of their life… you triple check every ferry timetable, and you LOVE doing it.

Glenn, you are a dream client. Safe travels Monday… I’ll be watching my phone the whole time. 🤍

Office from anywhere. This one’s from Naxos, and honestly, I still think about it.

Naxos is one of my favorite places on earth. It has that rare mix of authentic Greek island life without the crowds, incredible food, beautiful beaches, and the kind of slow, golden afternoons that make you forget your inbox exists. Almost.

This is the part of my job I never take for granted. I get to experience these places personally, the islands, the people, the little corners you’d never find on your own, so that when I send you somewhere, it’s not a guess. It’s a place I’ve loved first.

Meanwhile, back at my actual desk, summer is in full swing and my inbox is already dreaming about fall breaks and festive season escapes. If you’ve been thinking “we should really plan something,” this is your sign. The best dates always go first.

Morocco was everything I dreamed travel could be.

There is something about walking streets that have been walked for a thousand years that quiets you in a way nothing else can. The souks of Fes. The medina at night with the call to prayer washing over the city lights. Mint tea placed in your hands not as a transaction but as an act of honoring you as a guest.

The colors. The architecture. The intricate detail carved into every surface like someone spent a lifetime on a single wall. Because they did.

I walked through Morocco in a constant state of awe. Humbled by the history. Overwhelmed by the beauty. Moved by the warmth of people who had every reason to be indifferent to a stranger and chose generosity instead.

It captures your soul. I don’t know how else to say it.

I have been dreaming about sending people here ever since I left. If Morocco is calling you, I hope you answer it.

Five days. Zero full meals. One million reasons I am absolutely obsessed with this industry.

LE Miami, you did not come to play and neither did the people inside those walls. From the biggest brands you already know and love to the most incredible independently owned boutique hotels you haven’t discovered yet, destination management specialists who know their corners of the world better than anyone, and fellow advisors who just GET IT, we are all here for the same reason: to make sure your trip is nothing short of exceptional.

I headed home running on Dr Pepper, adrenaline, and sheer gratitude, and I would not trade a single second of it.

This industry is full of the most passionate, generous, wildly talented humans and I get to call them my people. That is not lost on me for even a moment.

Now if you need me, I’ll be horizontal for approximately one week.

Let me tell you what kind of travel advisor I am, so you know what you’re getting into when you work with me.

I’m the one who’s going to tell you to splurge on the private transfer, the room with the view, the extra night. Not because I’m trying to blow your budget but because I have seen those exact decisions make or break a trip more times than I can count. Convenience and comfort aren’t luxuries. They’re the difference between arriving frazzled and arriving ready.

I’m not here to help you check boxes. I want you to actually land somewhere. To walk the same streets twice. To find a little cafe and go back the next morning because the coffee was that good. To settle into a place before you’re already mentally on to the next one.

I will always pick the hotel that feels like it belongs exactly where it is over a big brand that could be dropped into any city in the world and you’d never know the difference. Sense of place matters. A lot.

I want you to stay longer than you think you need to. I know. I know you want to see everything. But I promise the version of you that slowed down will come home more full than the one who ran.

I want you to eat everything. Street food, the restaurant with no English menu, the thing you can’t pronounce. Food is the heart of a destination and I will not let you miss it.

I want you to meet one of my guides, wherever you go. That conversation with a real human who loves their city and knows its stories? That’s the thing you’ll still be talking about in five years.

And I want to know you. Your family. Your hopes. What kind of trip you’ve always dreamed about but haven’t said out loud yet. When your name shows up in my inbox again, I want to already know your story.
