Nashville's Belcourt Theater, seen here on Sept. 7, 1994, may be closing its doors for good on Oct. 1 when Carmike Cinemas’ 20-year lease on the theater expires.

On the same day, ownership of the building passes from a trust executed by Third National Bank to the four children of Fred Massey, the late entrepreneur who purchased the building in 1962.

The second photo is of the building that housed the original Castner Knott Dry Goods Co. on Fifth Avenue North near Church Street. The store, opened in 1898, moved in 1904.

The Metro Traffic and Parking Commission won an orchid for its Church Street Parking Garage, here Sept. 26, 1981, which provides off-street parking in the heart of downtown Nashville.

The award was in the planning solution category of the first annual Orchids and Onions contest sponsored by the Middle Tennessee chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

The Omohundro Water Filtration Plant over the years.

The Complex District is located at 1400 Pumping Station Road across the Cumberland River from Shelby Park. In 1987, the complex was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Filter Building was built in several phases starting in the 1920s in a basilica style plan. Originally steam-powered, it is now powered by electricity.

The first image shows the Terrazzo tile floor laid in an alternating diamond pattern, gray marble control stations, and arched brick galleries that illustrate the impressive architecture used in buildings throughout the complex. Water filters and their controls are lined up on both the left and right.
