We join the Nashville community in mourning the loss of Jack Cawthon, founder of Jack’s Bar-B-Que.
Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and the countless people who shared a meal, made memories, and came to love his iconic Nashville barbecue.
With heavy hearts, we must share that Jack Cawthon (1946-2026) founder of Jack’s Bar-B-Que, has passed away, after a protracted battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.
When Jack opened his first Jack’s Bar-B-Que location (previously Cawthon’s Caterer/ Bar-B-Que 1976-1991) at 1st and Broadway in 1991 he did more than open a restaurant. He changed the face of Nashville.
Jack created spaces that are rooted in good food, hard work, and more than a little nostalgia. For more than 50 years, Jack welcomed guests, served his community, and helped make Jack’s Bar-B-Que a part of Nashville’s history.
We are grateful for the many friends, customers and employees who have stood with Jack throughout his life and career. Your kindness and support meant the world to him.
Please keep Jack’s family and the Jack’s Bar-B-Q team in your thoughts and prayers. Arrangements are pending and will be shared when finalized.
