5 Top Goals for SoBro

Planners have outlined their five top goals as they plot to make the area south of Broadway into a connected area.
They are:
1. Repurposing the 12 acre Thermal site for civic open space as part of the Riverfront Park.
2. Building a pedestrian bridge from the Korean Veterans Boulevard roundabout to the Gulch.
3. Extending 5th Avenue’s “Avenue of the Arts” south, from where it currently ends at the Music City Center to Lafayette Street.
4. Extending Division Street to connect it to Second Avenue.
5. Transforming Lafayette Street into a complete street and eliminating street fragments that currently run into it. The vision is to make the existing area a more connected and vibrant area that will appeal to locals and visitors.

600 Acres for Donelson Park:
Metro is exploring the idea of purchasing nearly 600 acres of green space for a new park in Donelson at a cost to Nashville of $8.2 million, according to the Nashville Business Journal.
Legislation to buy the farm land adjacent to the Stones River was filed with Metro Council, Friday, December 7, 2012. For the 2013 fiscal year, Metro Council appropriated $15 million for open space projects and riverfront redevelopment, according to Mayor Dean’s office. The Conservation Fund, a national nonprofit that structures deals between landowners and municipalities, negotiated a contract for the land. Just as city leaders had the vision to set aside park land for Centennial, Shelby, Warner and Hadley Parks over a hundred years ago, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure this acreage that will be enjoyed by future generations.
