Hello!
We are “concerned” that parents may not have enough on-line resources for their children during the extended break. Every other day we will post teacher-approved😀 ocean-themed learning experiences for you to share. Many of the opportunities have supporting curriculum. Our students (who attend classes at the station) may not be leading school groups anytime soon, but they will be sharing their favorite topics and resources😀🦑

Florida’s 2019 sea turtle nesting season was very successful! Sea turtle surveyors worked hard all season long and our totals are complete: bit.ly/2UXquTT

The Statewide Nesting Beach Survey (SNBS) program documented 160,783 nests in 2019. Surveyors found 106,652 loggerhead nests, 53,015 green turtle nests (almost a new record!), 1,105 leatherback turtle nests and 11 Kemp’s ridley nests.
Our SNBS program records data on 229 beaches across Florida; however, survey efforts are not standardized over the years, please use caution when looking at these raw numbers. But not to worry, FWRI has a complementary survey program, the Index Nesting Beach Survey, specifically designed to assess nesting trends: bit.ly/2vtktqo

The cross on our island was erected in commemoration of the first religious ceremony in our country. It had stood strong since 1941, through hurricanes, and is a testament to our strength in the face of adversity. ❤🙏
