Virgin Island Sailing School

Virgin Island Sailing School Virgin Island Sailing School and Charter is the only ASA certified school based in the USVIs. Website | http://sailusvis.com Virgin Islands. Thomas Island.

Virgin Island Sailing School was founded in 2010 by Captain Scott Dempster and is the only American Sailing Association (ASA) certified school based in the U.S. We operate from November 1st through July 31st from our base on St. We established our school and charter company here because it is, quite simply, the best place to sail in the world – almost unfailingly warm and breezy, with smooth, calm

waters that are sheltered by surrounding islands. Each day offers new beaches to explore, breathtakingly beautiful anchorages, and seriously notable sunsets. Whether "schooling" or chartering, your itinerary is yours to create. You let us know your idea of a perfect week in paradise, and we’ll do our best to exceed your expectations. No idea where to start? Excellent - we kind of consider ourselves experts at engineering happiness. Our sailing school is the epitome of experiential learning. Classes are integrated into a live-aboard cruise over a 7-night, 6-day period, so you can immediately apply what you’ve learned in each lesson. You will master the ability to be your own captain, whether day-sailing, chartering your own boat with family and friends, or building upon your new knowledge to go anywhere and enjoy the endless adventure of it all. And while there are books, tests and certificates of completion, this is definitely not a traditional classroom environment. You will have plenty of time for recess, your after-school activities are yours to craft, and we promise your school days here in the islands will be like nothing you’ve ever experienced. Philosophically, ASA and all of us at Virgin Islands Sailing School believe that sailing is safe, fun and easy to learn. It’s only complicated and intense if those teaching it choose to present it that way. We don’t. The ocean is waiting. See you soon?

For qualified sailors who want a 3-4 day fast track to your bareboat certification, VI Sailing school has a deal for you...

ASA Bareboat Certification is your ticket to chartering your own vessel (without a hired captain) almost anywhere in the world.

I spent years racing the waters off Southern California. A race buddy of mine and an ASA teacher said this, “Every racer should take a cruising course, and every cruiser should take a racing course”. The point is they are two sets of related disciplines. One is about getting there quicker and the other is about living on a boat, aka “Cruising”.

When I wanted to charter my own boat, I found that ASA was the ticket (so much so that I ended up starting V.I. Sailing School). Proper anchoring (several ways), Man Over Board (MOB) techniques, advanced navigation, handling larger boat plumping and electrical complexities added greatly to my knowledge base. Though the “here is how you raise a sail, and here is how you reef…. was a bit monotonous.

So if you are ready to add &/or refine some skills, can “test out” of the beginning and intermediate levels (ASA 101 & 103) and earn your bare boat (ASA 104) all in 3-4 days, this special spring class could be for you.

Prices are $1525 for three days or $1795 for four days, double occupancy per cabin (Add $370 for single cabin occupancy). All boat running expenses including on board meals is covered along with the ASA book “Bareboating Made Easy” which we ship to you upon class sign up.

To see if you qualify, or for more information contact Capt Scott at [email protected] or call 805 850 8135.
