The stage lights have dimmed, and the "curtain" has closed on our 2026 Summer Concert Series at the Bandshell. What a season it has been!
•We’d like to take the opportunity to thank all attendees, volunteers, musicians, vendors, and YOU for making these concerts a huge success. Between the six concerts, we raised over $8,800+ that now goes back to the beneficiaries of each date.
• We’d also like to thank those who braved the rain for the Spotlight Series Concert on September 18th. Changing a venue in less than a week is tricky, but thanks to a lot of hard work and cooperation behind the scenes, this concert was the perfect bookend to the summertime music scene.

Come join the Monroe Prairie ATV Club for their annual Halloween Hunt on Saturday, October 24th @ 7 PM (Registaration starts @ 5:30 PM).
• Search for Halloween-themed items along the trails—the more you find, the better chance you have of winning a cash prize!
• Partake in the Halloween spirit a bit more by dressing up in costume for the ride! Anyone who dons their Halloween best will have a chance to win a bonus $25.
• In addition to the "hunt" and costume drawing, a 50/50 raffle will also be available.

From now through October 31st, stop by the Lester Public Library of Rome to view the annual Scarecrow Walk!
• All scarecrows are made by members of the community and/or local groups and connected to the overall theme of "Storybook Characters."
• You can vote for your favorite by visiting the library during business hours. Each patron gets one "vote," but can earn extra votes by bringing in food pantry donations.
• While you're checking out the scarecrows, also wander over to Jeanne's Tale Trail (right next to the dragon/Jack and the Beanstalk scarecrows). Although it's getting a little late in the season, the trail still has quite a few features still out and ready to be explored!

We’re starting to make plans for the 2027 Visitor’s Guide and need your help! Each year, we choose a handful of local photos to feature in our “Through the Lens” feature of the magazine. We love seeing photos of you, friends, and family out and about enjoying all that Rome has to offer.

Migratory Bird Day officially takes place on two dates; the second Saturday in May (for Canada and the United States) and the second Saturday in October (Mexico, Central/South America, and the Caribbean). In Rome, we choose the October date (October 10, 2026) because most of our seasonal birds depart for the south around this time of year. Regardless, we love celebrating birds all year round!

• The theme for 2026 is “Every Bird Counts,” emphasizing the importance of “community science” in order to observe the bird populations. However, you don’t have to be a scientist to count (or care about) birds!
• We do our part in Rome by hosting events such as the guided hike and “Beers & Birds” in the fall, as well as holding an annual “Christmas Bird Count” at the beginning of each year.
• You can do your part by observing bird trends in your backyard—what kinds can you see at this time of year, and have you noticed more/less than before?
