Sailing Resolution Offshore sail training passages and expeditions based on judgment, seamanship and adventure

I often get asked how I climb my mast solo. I am constantly seeing sketchy mast climbing setups by folks so I figured I’d share this setup. I’ve been working in the vertical world as a side gig from fishing and sailing for many years. I’ve been a rigger, arborist and climbing guide. This setup is my go to for ascending a single line. It translates well to the sailing world.

Thinking about heading to the Annapolis Boat Show this year? Looking for a late season passage back to New England to finish up your sailing season? We’ll be leaving the show bound for New Bedford. Trip dates are 10/20-10/28. We also will be headed to Annapolis on 9/25 and there’s a couple bunks left on that trip as well. It’s a few weeks before the show, but a great trip nonetheless!

Fall sailing will come with it’s challenges. Great opportunity for those looking for more insight into passage planning, navigating lots of marine traffic, offshore sailing and possibly some big wind sailing. Head over to the website at the link in our bio for more information. See you on board!

We have been working with Christine de Silva helping deploy her BRUVs in the deep. We just finished the second trip out to the continental shelf. I’ve spent so much time here in my commercial fishing career catching tuna, swordfish and sharks it’s neat to be back trying to catch sharks on camera instead. Might as well be an astronaut at these depths. The ocean never steps mesmerizing me.

We have a Buzzards Bay Cruise and two shorter offshore passages left on the schedule for the season. Head over to the site to see dates and prices if you’re interested. See you on board!

It’s been an interesting season so far with a good combination of hike and sailing, sail training and now some research trips. It’s been a strange season in regards to weather. Either light air or heavy air. Not much in between, but the wildlife viewing has been one for the record books this year. From White Sharks, to every species of marine mammal you can think of, tons of pelagic birds (Wilson’s Storm Petrel in the galley the other night) you name it we have seen it.

We also just took Resolution out to the continental shelf, where I’ve spent most of my adult life to drop BRUVS (Baited Remote Underwater Videos Systems) in the deep. This is for a shark biologist to facilitate the study of deep water shark species. Almost using Resolution like I would be longlining. We set the gear and then have to find it again when it resurfaces. It’s absolutely fascinating. It looks like a good chunk of August we will be out there doing more of it and I’m stoked to be able to help. As a kid I think I knew every factoid about every known species of shark at the time. Even had a collection anatomical shark sketches I had drawn as a catalog for Shark ID so this is my inner kid coming out, haha.

Our 2026 calendar has a few more trips open in September and 2027 is up and open for booking on the site as well. Everything from long passages up north to hike and sailing trips a little bit closer to home. If you’re looking for a customized trip we do that too. We’ll take Resolution anywhere this enough water to float her.

A relatively quick intro to how and why I started this business. Thanks Marisa Evans for lighting a fire under my ass to start getting in front of the camera more.

Our trip schedule for 2026 and 2027 are up on our website which you can access at the link in our bio. Our boat tracker is up there as well as a link to my interview with Paul Trammell on the Offshore Sailing and Cruising podcast

Hope to see some of you aboard Resolution in the future!

Just a neat shot of Resolution in her element last trip. Cold water sailing, mountains and an incredibly peaceful anchorage surrounded by harbor porpoise, harbor and grey seals, eagles, osprey, black guillemots and thick banks of fog.

What a trip….

Beautiful scenery, sailing and tons of wildlife are what you think make a perfect trip and that’s certainly one aspect, but the people are what really make it. Laughing until it hurts…daily, deep conversations with your watch partner at 2 am, sharing food, music, being awe struck by wildlife and beautiful scenery….does life get any more real than that? Between the countless whales, dolphins riding the bow wave, a white shark chasing a seal, Mola Mola and full moon night watches I think we’re all navigating re-entry after this one delicately.
