You may have seen the name Wyland in the news recently. Wyland is a renowned environmental artist who inspires people to learn about the health of our oceans and waterways through public art, science education, and events.

In New Bedford, we’re proud to share our Wyland mural with the world. “Great Whales of New Bedford” was # 93 of his over 100 mural Whaling Wall series painted across the globe. Painted on the West Terminal of the Maritime Terminal Inc., it can be seen driving down RT 18 or walking along MacArthur Drive.

Come see the mural in person and learn more about ocean ecology and conservation at the New Bedford Whaling Museum and New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center

As the top fishing port in the nation, "boat-to-table" isn't a luxury; it's a way of life.

The port is a vital artery in the supply chain for the seafood industry in the US and beyond, with an average of 1M lbs of seafood moving through our port each day. New Bedford scallops are prized around the world, and nearly 50M lbs of sea scallops land on our docks in a single year.

The Black Whale serves up freshly caught seafood with waterfront dining on New Bedford's Pier 3, where you can watch active fishing vessels at work on the pier.

How do North American river otters keep themselves warm after swimming?

They have thick, protective fur that they clean and dry between dives to maintain their insulating properties. These otters love to swim and have webbed feet and a long, strong tail that helps them swim fast.

New Bedford's Buttonwood Park Zoo is home to three North American river otters. Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), BPZOO is committed to providing excellent care for animals and educating the public about wildlife, habitats, and conservation.
