The Harbor Country Museum of History + Rail, also known as the New Buffalo Railroad Museum, is housed inside a Pere Marquette Depot replica on the historic rail yards of New Buffalo, Michigan. The “Little Museum That Could” educates and enchants visitors who experience the re-telling of the area’s history with special emphasis on its railroad heritage. Displays include items from the train depot b

uilding plus Pere Marquette, C&O, Chessie Systems, Michigan Central and Amtrak artifacts. Rail yard crew and steam engine photos, and a large collection of equipment including lanterns are also shown. Visitors operate the HO scale hand-crafted model train layout, which replicates a historic picture of the city in miniature. A rare World War II Pullman Troop Sleeper Car, Chessie Box Car, and C&O Caboose are open for discovery. An updated and informational Veterans Display proudly honors local servicemen and women. The “Gateway To Michigan” and "New Buffalo Built on a Dream" collection presents the historical endeavors of local pioneers. Visitors are provided with a Self-Guided brochure to discover the museum individually. Noon – 5 pm Eastern. No admission. Donations appreciated.

New Buffalo Township is excited to announce that the ribbon cutting and patriotic ceremony for Tribute Plaza will take place on Tuesday, June 16th at 10:00 a.m. at 17654 Clay Street.

We invite the community to join us as we honor those who have served our country and celebrate this special addition to the township. We look forward to seeing you there!

Monday, May 25, 2026 is Memorial Day, a federal holiday held annually the last Monday in May, to mourn and honor its deceased service men and women.

The Museum will be open 12-5:00 pm Eastern.

At 10:00 a.m. there will be a remembrance ceremony at Pine Grove Cemetery.

At 3:00 p.m. will be the National Moment of Remembrance. All Americans, wherever they are at 3:00 p.m. local time, please pause for one minute to remember those who have died in and from military service to the United States. At the Museum, we will face out flag for this moment of silent remembrance. Please join us.
