I have more than five things I always take with me when I travel. But these are the five I’d be really bummed if I forgot. I hate being away from my bed and routine so anything that helps me feel comfortable and things that are familiar help with my long travels. Also, I only have five fingers so there’s that. Would love to know your travel must haves? Am I missing something you always take ?

With all the buzz about AI and travel, I had to sample it myself. Not because I feel threatened, in fact, I think AI can only help a travel advisor. But because I was curious to test my knowledge, skills, and first hand experience against it. And it didn’t do a good job. At all. It only reinforced what I already know: nothing can replace the human touch when it comes to the service industry and people who handle person experiences.

The person who wants to plan a trip with AI would never make a good client of mine. I’m not here on instagram to woo new clients. My clients know what I do and understand the value.
Everyone else can keep doing their diy travel. Will it be good? Maybe. But will it be exceptional? Definitely not. And some people are ok with just good. And they will never know the difference.
But as the saying goes, you don’t know what you don’t know.
Btw I integrate AI into my business every single day. But it’s automating my workflow, helping me be more efficient. It is not researching trips for me. That’s a bad idea. All footage shot by me. lol. Have to give the photo creds where it’s due!

Rome hotel AI test: Claude vs GPT Vs ME

Using AI in travel- let’s get real. The same prompt. Two opposite answers. You’re stuck without clarity. I will be doing more of these but here the rub:
1. AI is pulling from crowd sourced reviews, Trip advisor, Expedia and the likes. If you aren’t going there to plan your travel bc it’s not for you, well then, using AI is doing exactly that.
2. AI can’t replace the human knowledge and experience of having been to a place in person and then imparting your knowledge to help clients.
3. What’s faster ? The internet rabbit hole or hiring a Master Travel Advisor who not only does all the grunt work, but puts it in beautiful itinerary software to keep everything at your fingertips!

AI has a place and time. Travel planning is not one of them. You may get some of it right but why even risk one minute of your trip ?

That time I paid €13.000 so my client would be in a better hotel. This was one of the lowest points of my career. The worst experience with a DMC that I have ever had. I know that I made the right decision, I still work with this client and truly love doing their family’s travel. Sometimes travel advisors have to make tough choices so the traveler has a great experience. You never know what’s going on behind the scene !

Many people disagree with me, and that is ok, we hall have different priorities when it comes to travel. But as someone who travels a lot, and whose job it is to know most five star hotels where I sell, I’ve come to learn that a hotel stay truly matters. Yes, you are out most of the day in a city stay, but also, when you return, don’t you want to feel special, taken care of, comfortable. Dont you want the stay elevated, with a soft robe, room services and a view. For me, this really matters. A lot. It makes me more difficult to travel with, and I am discerning and picky— especially when it comes to amenities and comfort. And turn down service.
We are all different and I love my clients who don’t care just as much as the ones who feel the way I do , it’s ok! But do I understand that POV? Not at all. Like not for one second 🤪🤪🤪

These are the MOST important things to consider BEFORE you start your trip planning! You’re spending a lot, so put some thought into these and then let’s talk. Luxury travel has a price, be prepared for that. When you come home you will not always remember every small detail of your vacation but you will remember how it made you FEEL. This matters when planning. And yah, a hotel is more than a place to sleep. If you don’t agree we are not the same 🤣
