🌍 The Earth has landed in New York City!
One of NYC’s newest and most breathtaking installations is now floating inside the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Morningside Heights.
“Gaia”, created by British artist Luke Jerram, is a 23-foot-wide illuminated and slowly rotating Earth made using detailed NASA imagery. Suspended beneath the soaring Gothic arches of the Cathedral, it gives visitors a rare perspective of our planet—as if you were seeing Earth floating in space.
The installation opened September 18 and is on view through October 9, 2026, during the Cathedral’s regular visiting hours.

Definitely one of those NYC experiences that looks impressive in photos—but probably feels completely different when you’re standing underneath it.
