Here's a few stats from Jan. 2022 Arizona Auction Week:
*Total sales $266.7 million. Up 22% from 2020 despite one-third fewer cars. (For comparison, Mecum's Kissimmee auction totaled $239 million). Hagerty's forecast was $211 million.
*Top sale- RM Sotheby's sold a 1955 Mercedes Benz $6,825,000.
*Bonham's sold the 1949 Buick from the movie 'Rainman' for $335,000.
*Of course, my highlight was the George Bailey 1919 Dodge from the movie 'It's a Wonderful Life' selling at Mecum for $475,000, almost double the reserve of $250,000.
*Despite fewer auctions and fewer cars, the sell-through rate increased from 97% to 99%.
*Average sale price increased from $95,152 to $126,556.
A little more on Mecum Kissimmee:
*Mecum sold over 1,000 more cars this year than last.
*Average sale price increased from $46K to $72K.
*Here's a big one- Vehicles sold that were bought at the auction within the past two years had an AVERAGE return- as in profit- of 26%, up from 7% in previous years.
Most remarkable- at each of these sales, I found MULTIPLE cars that sold well under market value. Every. Sale. This is the magic of the auction world.
Next on my agenda- the Mecum auction in Glendale AZ at the end of March. I will be there credentialed to buy or sell. If you want something of your own, or just want to get in on the current bonanza, message me and I'll show you how.
