Given the low river levels and the drying up of backwaters, fish are compelled to gather in the river's slack waters and vegetation. This creates an excellent opportunity for an evening spent on the water.

I observed a fish swimming without a tail for the first time. This particular Gar had no tail, and the area where it should have been was completely healed, indicating the remarkable resilience of fish.

I had the pleasure of guiding two groups over the Fourth of July weekend! Remarkably, we encountered another white bowfin, though this time it was discovered out on the lake. This particular specimen displayed lime green fins, contrasting with the pinkish-red ones we observed couple weeks ago on a different guide.

On Saturday night, the group successfully located and shot a white bowfin, which was a remarkable discovery and achievement. Additionally, they were able to shoot numerous common carp. It was indeed a splendid evening to be out on the water.

The evening began somewhat slowly for larger fish, with gar and drums being shot. However, as the night progressed, an increasing number of sizable fish of various species began to appear. The largest fish shoot was a buffalo, weighing in at 34.7 pounds.
