Rare guide fun day last February with Cratty. If you know me you know I’m a bit of a gear wonk. Of course my clients fish the latest hot gear from Orvis and others but variety is the spice of life. A special day last July on a father son trip-lots of bulls, sea trout and a couple jacks. We rarely wade fish but it can be a hoot! If you haven’t fished Louisiana in the summer you are missing out. July and August are fire. Also check out what a different color the last bull is that we caught the same day on the way in… pretty neat!

Happy New Year y’all! Hope that it brings you lots of opportunities to do the things that bring you joy and spend time with the people you love. I’ll be posting some 2025 highlights—trying to share more here this year. Check out this nice permit from my 3rd hosted trip to the gorgeous Cuba flats last May. Sight-fishing and wading for these bastards is about the most difficult and fun thing you can do saltwater fly fishing.

We went to the state capital on Tuesday where the Joint Oversight Committee deemed that the proactive notice of intent (NOI) for Louisiana Redfish Management we have been pushing for was “unacceptable.” It was evident only minutes into this hearing that, for reasons other than public comment, the Committee had made their minds up before this hearing even began. Infuriating. Maddening. Depressing.

The House chose not to support a 13-year rebuilding timeline, stating they would instead wager the future of this fishery against a 30-year timeline. The Senate opted not to vote on the NOI. While this Committee may have deemed the most reasonable approach to rebuilding this fishery “unacceptable,” we find questioning the sanctity of sound data and committing to a 30-year timeline “unacceptable.”

Thankfully, this campaign does not end here. The Joint Oversight Committee only has the power to deem an NOI “acceptable” or “unacceptable” before it heads to the Governor’s desk.

Now, a worthy Notice of Intent to rebuild the Louisiana Redfish stock sits on the Governor’s desk alongside thousands of public comments, brand sign-ons and stacks of supporting scientific evidence from the fishery and the industry. And here’s where we need you:

JOIN US IN CALLING ON THE GOVERNOR TO VETO THE COMMITTEE’S DECISION:

Join us in calling on Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards to VETO the decision of the Joint Oversight Committee and approve this NOI to rebuild this world-class fishery in a fair, equitable, and timely manner.

Today is the last day to sign the ASGA letter in support of changing the limits for redfish in Louisiana—1988 was the last time the limits were changed! Between massive recreational overfishing, the industrial pogie boats destroying everything with impunity and bow fishing running amok, Louisiana redfish are taking a beating.
