Today, on Global Travel Advisor Day, we’re especially proud to celebrate for two incredible milestones.

In just over a year, Shelley has established herself as a trusted travel advisor known for her dedication, professionalism, and genuine care for her clients. Her passion for creating meaningful travel experiences and her commitment to continued growth have been evident from day one.

We’re thrilled to share that Shelley has recently completed Avoya Travel’s Early Success Program and has also earned recognition as one of Avoya’s top-performing Independent Agents, securing her place at the 2026 Million Dollar Showcase in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Shelley has become a trusted resource for clients planning European river cruises, particularly with AmaWaterways and Avalon Waterways, while supporting travelers across a wide range of journeys. She is also an active member of ASTA and CLIA, reflecting her commitment to industry knowledge and professional development.

Watching Shelley grow into this role has been incredibly rewarding, and we could not be more proud to have her represent Travelkunst.

About to arrive back in Tokyo with sweeping views from Observation Bar 36 as we sailed back into port.

As our time in Japan comes to an end, this morning was about appreciating the details that made this journey special - making new friends, our thoughtful cabin attendant Jonathan who made us smile each day with towel animals, enjoying a last coffee at Ocean Square Cafe, breakfast al fresco on the terrace at Hachiyo.

The design onboard… that spiral staircase you keep passing and then suddenly stop to admire.
The beautiful floral installations that add such a polished touch throughout the ship.

And of course, the experiences in between.

A relaxing afternoon at the spa yesterday.
Learning about Funatabi Japanese Afternoon Tea Setting and a Traditional omakase dinner.

These are just a few of the moments that defined our time onboard Mitsui Ocean Fuji.

Tonight we’re off to the airport for our flight back to the US… already thinking about when we’ll return and helping our clients experience Japan authentically.

Day 5 | Sasebo, Nagasaki

We woke up early to a beautiful sunrise as we approached Sasebo — one of those quiet moments at sea that sets the tone for the day.

As we arrived, we noticed several naval ships in port. Sasebo has long been an important naval hub and is home to a U.S. Navy base.

Our welcome into town was a fun one — greeted by Sasebo Burger Boy. We didn’t try the famous burger this time, but it’s definitely on the list for next visit.

From there, we made our way to Hirado Castle. The sweeping views from the top were worth it.

Afterwards we stopped at Tabira Catholic Church along the way.

Lunch was a traditional Japanese meal — simple and very thoughtfully prepared.

In the afternoon, we visited Arita, known for its intricate porcelain. The craftsmanship is incredible. Photos weren’t allowed, which somehow made the experience feel even more special… and we may or may not have left with a few pieces.

Back on board, the evening began with a Japanese gin cart presentation, before dinner at Hokusai Fine Dining, where Japanese and French influences come together in a multi-course experience.

And as has now become a bit of a tradition, we returned to our room to find another towel animal waiting for us — this time, a dinosaur.

A full day, with just the right balance of culture, history, and small, memorable moments.

Day 4 | Ibusuki, Kagoshima

We made it through the storm… and waking up to calmer seas was a relief.

Our tender boat experience to shore added a sense of adventure right from the start, stepping off the ship and into a rainy but warm welcome in Ibusuki.

From there, we were immediately immersed in local culture — vibrant colors, quiet streets lined with cherry blossoms, and small, unexpected details.

A scenic drive took us past rolling green tea fields before arriving at the Chiran Peace Museum, where we learned about the young Kamikaze pilots of WWII and read their final letters to their loved ones.
From there, we continued to Chiran Samurai Residence Street. A quiet, beautifully preserved area where time seems to slow down. The gardens are meticulously maintained, each one offering a different perspective into the lives and traditions of the samurai families who once lived here.

Back on board, we returned to our room to yet another thoughtful detail — a new towel animal waiting for us.

Day three. A day at sea — just not quite the one we had imagined.

We woke up at 4am to the sound and movement of the ship as we sailed through a major storm.

Winds reaching up to 60 knots.
Waves rising 5 to 6 meters.
Storm and rain that stayed with us all day into the night.

It was intense — and a reminder that the sea always sets the pace.

All scheduled programming for us as travel advisors was cancelled, and for most of the day, we did exactly what the conditions called for.

We stayed in bed.

Seasickness is part of the reality of ocean travel, even on the most thoughtfully designed ships. And days like this are a good reminder of just how important stability, service, and comfort become.

Even in the middle of the storm, the crew remained calm, attentive, and reassuring throughout.

And while this wasn’t the day we had planned, it was still part of the experience.

Travel is not always perfect.

But it is always memorable.

In a few hours, we arrive in Ibusuki.

Day two. And a very special one as it was also ’s birthday.

We started the morning slowly, with a light breakfast at the hotel before packing our bags and storing our luggage. There was a sense of transition in the air — knowing we’d be leaving Tokyo later that day.

Before heading to the port, we gave ourselves time to explore.

We wandered through Ginza, then took a GOTaxi over to Chidorigafuchi to see the cherry blossoms. Experiencing them in person is something else entirely — petals drifting across the water, boats moving quietly beneath the trees.

From there, we continued on to Yasukuni Shrine, where you’re transported back in time.

Back in Ginza, we had one goal: fluffy Japanese pancakes.

We tried , but they were fully booked. So we pivoted and ended up at bills, where we shared roast Ebisu kabocha pumpkin and their ricotta hotcakes — delicious and beautifully fluffy.

After a bit of shopping, we returned to the hotel to catch our shuttle to the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal.

And just like that, we shifted from city to sea.

Boarding the Mitsui Ocean Fuji felt calm and seamless. After the safety briefing, we settled into our balcony suite, where a few thoughtful touches were waiting — including a sweet birthday note, bubbles, and chocolates for Nora.

Dinner at The Fuji Restaurant brought another lovely moment, as the team took time to recognize Nora’s birthday with a song and birthday cake.

Later, back in the room, one final detail — an adorable towel animal and a spa credit, a small gesture that reflects the care on board and put a smile on our face.

A meaningful transition into the next part of this journey.

We’ll take you along as it continues.

Tokyo, day one.

We arrived yesterday and were reminded very quickly how different it feels to experience a place firsthand.

Japan has long been on our radar, and we’re here now to experience it authentically for our clients.

For , this is a first visit. For , a second — and already provided a glimpse of just how much there is to take in.

Travelkunst was selected as one of a few select agencies invited to join this familiarization journey with . Later today, we’ll be boarding the Mitsui Ocean Fuji.

This is the part of our work that matters most. Being here before recommending it to you.

Arrival at Haneda can feel overwhelming depending on how many flights land at once.

A small tip that makes a big difference:

Register on Visit Japan Web before departure and save your QR code.

Have it ready when you land, and you’ll move ahead of most travelers still completing forms in line.

After passport control, scan the QR code again at the kiosks before baggage claim — this step determines your customs process and is often missed.

Timing varies. Nora went through in about 20 minutes, while Shelley waited closer to an hour.

Outside, our driver was waiting despite delays, and within minutes we were on our way into the city.

Tokyo begins to reveal itself.

Clean.
Respectful.
Quietly precise.

Everything feels intentional.
⠀ We began the journey with an intimate dinner experience at with only 6 counter seats. — a certified tour guide, Japanese food expert, Sake Sommelier and Shelley’s guide on her last visit, led us through the evening.

Each course was thoughtfully paired with a select Sake, each ingredient explained, each moment given the time it deserved.

Precise, refined, and quietly exceptional.

You sit.
You watch.
You taste.

And somewhere along the way, you realize how present you’ve become.

A very special way to begin.

We’ll be taking you along, day by day, as this journey unfolds.
