As the founder and CEO of Staten Island Discovery Tours LLC, I am passionate about unlocking the full potential of Staten Island's tourism industry. Undaunted by the challenges that lie ahead, I remain steadfast in my pursuit. I have poured my heart and soul into this venture, and I am confident that my unwavering dedication will ultimately lead to success.
The Wall #1: Challenge
Following a meeting with Vito Fossella's Borough President's office, I was thrilled to learn that my proposal to reopen the tourist information kiosk in the Saint George ferry terminal was well-received. Although nine months have passed since my initial inquiry, I remain optimistic that a response to my emails and phone calls is forthcoming. My vision for the kiosk is to provide visitors with a comprehensive guide to Staten Island's hidden gems, from the north shore to the south shore, including its stunning beaches, cultural centers, museums, parks, restaurants, and businesses. The purpose of the information kiosk aligns perfectly with my proposal, which I graciously offered to operate at no cost to the borough. After many pleasant conversations and respectable emails, they no longer respond to my emails or phone calls.
The Wall #2: Challenge
After exchanging emails with Stephanie, a leasing manager at Empire Outlets, I was disappointed to learn that my request to rent a kiosk was denied due to concerns that my business would redirect visitors away from their property. Although I was taken aback by this reasoning, I remain confident that a tour operator would be a valuable asset to their property. As a tour operator, my role is to drive visitors to the property, where they can organically explore the stores, restaurants, and kiosks, while also experiencing the rich history and culture of Saint George and the North Shore. THEY SAID NO!
Wall #3: Challenge
Although the Staten Island Ferry Terminal DOT office rejected my application to have a representative in the Terminal to provide directions to visitors, I was not discouraged. Instead, I viewed this setback as an opportunity to explore alternative solutions. And with all fairness, the DOT office did give a valid reason. I received a call from the deputy commissioner Garvey who explain their position at the terminal. They were understood.
Despite these obstacles, I remain committed to my vision of transforming Staten Island into a premier tourist NYC destination. As the CEO of Staten Island Discovery Tours, I will continue to push forward, undeterred by challenges. I am confident that my perseverance and passion will ultimately lead to the realization of my vision for Staten Island.
