This year The ALIX Experience Tour presents 'TRAVELING THE PATH OF THE IMPRESSIONISTS AND BEYOND, PARIS AND NORMANDY'.

2024 marks the 150th anniversary of the Impressionist Art movement which began in 1874. The ALIX Experience Tour will begin and end in Paris, where the museums are filled with some of the most important examples of Impressionists art.

Our museum stops will include: Musée d'Orsay, Musée de l'Orangerie, Musée Marmottan Monet, Musée Rodin and more.

Join us as we engage with signature works by the Impressionists, in the city where the movement was born!

Cooking Class

Our last day together was spent at Cafe Clock where we took part in a traditional Moroccan home cooking class. Our menu included a wonderful chicken dish which was simmered after being rubbed and marinated with spices, a terrific soup, a carrot salad, steamed vegetables and learning the proper way of preparing couscous which included washing and steaming, adding oil at different stages - the process involved using one's hands. The end results were all delicious! We also made desserts, one of which was phyllo stuffed, steamed and pureed figs - the snake.

Shopping for Food in Marrakech

We were able to see so many dimensions of everyday life in Marrakech. One of the highlights was shopping for ingredients with our chef who would lead our cooking class, which we will share tomorrow. One of our first stops was to a communal oven where women brought their kneaded and risen breads to the baker. It was pretty clear that he knew the pans, the towels that covered the breads - no one got someone elses breads!
The small markets were crammed with vegetables and grains and even in the heat, meats and chickens looked fresh before they were transformed by spices and slow cooking.

Up Up and Away
We were picked up at our hotel at 5:10 in the morning and drove to the desert to a series of tents with coffee and light breakfast fare. Watching the balloons at first lying flat against the landscape then coming to life was a beautiful sight to behold. Once boarded in our basket compartments, the quiet of being in the air, seeing other balloons in flight, the land dotted with other settlements, Marrakesh in the distance and the winding river was all beyond thrilling!

Camel and Desert Dinner
During the fourth day of our tour we took a trip to the Agafay desert where we rode on camels - a first for many of us! We also had cocktails and dinner under the stars at Scarabeo.

During our recent visit to Marrekesh, we were surrounded by the signature blue color of the beautifully designed Jardin Marjorell and visited the YSL Museum. The gardens were exquisite and the collection of Berber artifacts collected by Saint Laurent’s partner Pierre Berge really captured the Berber traditions around Morrocco.

As many of you may know, ALIX has just returned from a wonderful tour, Embracing the Magic of Marrakech. We wanted to share with you some highlights from the trip.

We visited the Museum of Arts, the Museum of Photography as well as the famous Dar El Bacha Palace. The tile work was extraordinary with very intricate patterns and intense colors. Even the design and construction of the ceilings was exceptional.

Our First Dinner at El Fenn
We gathered together over a lovely and very lively dinner on the rooftop of El Fenn. Lots of laughs, wine and brought new and familar friends together!

The next day we toured the exterior walls and historic gates surrounding the Medina.

Claude Monet and Joan Mitchell: “Monet - Mitchell”
Fondation Louis Vuitton - Paris, France

“The exhibitions "Monet - Mitchell" create an unprecedented "dialogue" between the works of two exceptional artists, Claude Monet (1840-1926) and Joan Mitchell (1925-1992).
The "Monet - Mitchell" exhibitions present each artist’s unique response to a landscape and nature, illustrated in a particularly immersive manner. In his last paintings, the Water Lilies, Monet aimed to recreate in his studio the motifs he observed at length on the surface of his water lily pond in Giverny. Joan Mitchell, on the other hand, would explore a memory or a sense of the emotions she felt while in a particular place that was dear to her, perceptions that remained vivid beyond space and time. She would create these abstract compositions at La Tour, her studio in Vétheuil, a small French village.”

Also the major Joan Mitchell Retrospective is on to provide a full day of glorious art!
