Patagonia fjords photo dump, part two 🌎✨

Still pinching myself that I got to wander through Patagonia’s wild fjords with . Sharing these photos because words can’t capture how small and grateful I felt standing under those towering ice walls and moody skies.

For anyone curious, here’s everywhere we stopped along the way:

• Ushuaia, Argentina & Beagle Channel
• The Chilean Fjords, including Pía, Garibaldi and Vergara glaciers
• Seno d’Agostini and the serene Bernal Glacier
• Zodiac rides through Canal Tres Cerros and Isla Madre de Dios
• Kawesqar National Park & colossal Pio XI Glacier
• The narrow twists of English Narrows and Messier Channel
• The wooden walkways of Caleta Tortel
• Puerto Montt, Chile – our farewell to Patagonia

Grateful for glacier hikes, countless cups of hot cocoa, and the kindred spirits who made this trip unforgettable. 💙🗺️

If you know me, then you know a big city in the heat is usually the fastest way to lose me. Which is exactly why I did not expect Buenos Aires to win me over in less than 24 hours.

That was the surprise of this stop for me. Buenos Aires felt alive in a way that is hard to explain unless you have been there. Messi was in town for a game, AC/DC was there too, and the whole city had this electric energy around it.

What I learned quickly is that if you are short on time, this is not a city I would try to piece together on your own. It is much more spread out than people expect, which is why I think a private guide and driver is the smartest way to do it. I had never done that before, but here it made a huge difference. We were able to see so much more, move around easily, and actually enjoy the day instead of spending it figuring out logistics.

La Boca and Caminito brought all the color and character you hope for. San Telmo was another highlight. But Recoleta Cemetery was the place that completely stopped me in my tracks. It was eerie, beautiful, and unlike anything I have ever seen before. If you are building out a quick Buenos Aires itinerary, I would absolutely make that one of your priorities.

We stayed at Palacio Duhau, Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, which I thought was a very smart base for a short luxury stay. The palace side of the property is where you really feel the history and elegance, while the rooms are more classic Park Hyatt. Very comfortable beds, beautiful bathrooms, and a great location, especially for Recoleta. The rooms themselves were not the most character filled part of the stay, but overall I really liked the property.

And since I always appreciate when someone gives the honest take, here is mine: Don Julio was completely overrated to me. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but as someone who dines out a lot, I found it too touristy and not worth the cost. Buenos Aires has better places to eat.

My takeaway as a travel advisor? Buenos Aires is absolutely worth adding to a South America itinerary, even if you only have a short stay. You just need to know how to do it well.

My first stop in South America was La Bandada, an estancia about 1.5 to 2 hours from Buenos Aires International airport, and honestly it was such a special way to ease into Argentina.

We stayed for 2 nights, which felt just right and seems to be the sweet spot here. It is all inclusive with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included, while soft drinks and alcohol are extra. If you are just going airport to estancia and then back into Buenos Aires, they can arrange transfers easily. If you want to explore more of the area, I would absolutely recommend having a car.

A few things I think are really helpful to know before booking: we stayed in the Hornero Suite, which is the only room with air conditioning. For a lot of US travelers, that is worth knowing upfront. An empanada class, horseback riding, bikes, the pool, games, and a traditional gaucho show are all included in the rate, which adds a lot of value. The horseback riding at sunset was especially beautiful.

What really stood out most though was the hospitality. Grace and her team were incredible. They loaned my daughter riding boots and even made a pharmacy run for us when we needed a few things. That kind of care always leaves the biggest impression on me.

This is a working farm, so I think the key to loving it is going in with the right expectations. A lot of the experience happens outdoors, including meals, and dinner is served at a set time with a set menu. Breakfast and lunch are also at set times. If you are expecting polished city hotel energy, this is not that. If you want something warm, authentic, family friendly, relaxing, and full of character, it is a really lovely stay. Great for families, but I could absolutely see couples loving it too.

My honest travel advisor take: I loved it. The rooms were very good, though I do think the bathroom in the Hornero Suite could use a refresh. But overall, we had an amazing stay and I would absolutely recommend it to the right traveler.

This is exactly why I love seeing places for myself. The little details matter, and they are the kind of things that make all the difference when I am matching a property to the right client.
