Yesterday we were out on the course for McKeon’s / Store House 19th Annual Golf Outing at Philip J. Rotella Golf Course in Haverstraw. Sh***un start, 2-ball scramble, and a Beat the Pro challenge — a great day on the fairways with an even better reason to be there.
Proceeds benefit the New York GAA Minor Board Division, and a portion supports the Redmond Park Development Project. Golf, good company, and money going back into the community. That’s a round worth playing.
Thanks to everyone who organized it, sponsored a hole, and showed up — golfers and non-golfers alike. Already looking forward to the 20th.

Europe’s Luke Donald is chasing history — a third straight captaincy after wins in Rome and at Bethpage. Opposite him: USA captain Jim Furyk. In Donald’s room so far: vice-captains Pádraig Harrington, Francesco Molinari, and Edoardo Molinari. On the American side: Stewart Cink and Justin Leonard.

Golf at the edge of the earth. EGT Golf Tour just landed in New Zealand — and Cape Kidnappers is the round you don’t forget.
Tom Doak’s masterpiece sits on a ridge above Hawke’s Bay, where fairways run out along fingers of land and the Pacific drops away beneath you. Not classic links. Firm, fast, and built on cliffs and ravines, with the wind always in the conversation. Stand on the edge and you’re roughly 140 metres above the waves. Miss the wrong side and the ball hangs for a long second before it disappears.
The front nine builds inland — elevation changes, carries over ravines, greens that demand a committed line. Then the course turns seaward. The 6th is a peninsula par 4 with the ocean on three sides. The 15th, Pirate’s Plank, narrows all the way to a green barely wide enough to hold a shot, with a sheer cliff on one side. Infinity greens. Tea-tree carries. Bunkers you’d rather find than the drop beyond them. Gannets ride the wind above the clifftop holes the whole way round.
Par 71. World-class. Pure theatre.
