Day Four: Grand Canyon West Rim and Grapevine Canyon

We had originally planned to drive to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon because all of my research said it has the best and most iconic view. It was a 5 hour drive each way! After already driving for the better part of two days we decided that was just too far. We opted for the West Rim which was only a 2 1/2 hour drive each way. Much more doable! The west rim is on an Indian reservation which meant we had to pay quite a bit to visit! This is where the Skywalk is. We decided not to do that! If you haven’t seen it, look it up! 😳 We decided that if the money goes to those poor people we didn’t mind to pay it. Their living conditions were awful. Or they looked awful to us anyway.

The Grand Canyon is something to see. You just can’t imagine how big it is until you’re standing there looking at it. There were no fences or walls to keep you safe either!! I was literally scared to death. Not for myself, but for my crazy dad and husband who like to see how close they can get to the edge!! I had my kids by the hands too. BTW one is 17 and the other is almost 15. 🤣🤣🤣 It was really scary. We did climb up on top of the rocks in the middle though (myself included). It wasn’t nearly as scary as being so close to the edge. We had a spectacular view from up there! If you haven’t been to the Grand Canyon, you definitely need to plan to go. It is indeed GRAND!!!

After we left there it was still early so I “Googled” (wink, wink) what was cool to do around there. Lo and behold I found the most awesome place to see hundreds and hundreds of petroglyphs and magnificent scenery! It’s a place called Grapevine Canyon. We’ve never seen so many petroglyphs. It was awesome!!

Day Three: Zion National Park

Zion was my favorite out of all the places we went! It is unbelievably beautiful! We had plans to go walk the Narrows but there was a flood watch so we couldn’t do that. ☹️ But still, just driving through the mountains was breathtaking. Again, pictures just don’t do it justice.

Here are a few of my favorites. I have a couple of videos I’m going to post later too! We ate at an awesome little restaurant there called Oscar’s Cafe. Food was delicious and the portions were huge!

Day two of our vacation was spectacular! 🤩 we hopped in our rental and headed for Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire State Park!! It was so cool driving through the dessert. Very different from Kentucky! The first stop was Hoover Dam and then on to see Elephant Rock and Mouse’s Tank for an easy hike where we saw lots of beautiful scenery, petroglyphs, and wildlife-the dessert big horn sheep! They actually didn’t mind us at all. My dad loves getting really close to everything which made me nervous at first. I had just watched that video of the man getting thrown into the air by the bison so I was scared! I kept my distance. Dad, not so much. Anyway, enjoy these beautiful pictures! It’s so much better in person!!

We are back from our vacation and I can’t wait to share some of the beautiful pictures I took! We had never been out west at all and had been wanting to for years. We finally decided to do it and we are so happy we did!! If you haven’t been you must go! Pictures don’t do it justice.

Day One: Las Vegas Strip- we arrived late Sunday/early Monday and had to get some sleep. After that we got up and explored the strip!
We went to the Bellagio, Caesar’s Palace, the Venetian, and New York New York (I think that’s all). Of course we explored our hotel too, Planet Hollywood. Here are some photos…Sad that we didn’t have time to see the Wizard of Oz.

We picked Vegas to use as a jumping off point basically. We flew there so that we could drive to all the places we wanted to see. Stay tuned for the good stuff!! 🤣

A few years ago we took this white mat to Disney and got a few characters to sign it. I finally got a picture printed to put in it and I love how it turned out! I need to take it back to get more autographs though! I had to baby it a bit in the parks to keep from bending it but I might take it back again next time.
