We had a little reunion on tour!! 💙🤍

Michael, founder and owner of Christopher Street Tours, first met Ray at SUNY Geneseo. As undergrads, they worked together in the admissions office and in residential life. Last week, Michael welcomed Ray on tour to celebrate his upcoming wedding with his bachelor party - all fellow Geneseo alumni and/or former employees! What a fun time! 🌈

We had a great group of students and staff join us earlier this month to learn more about the q***r history of the neighborhood, the preservation of historic LGBTQ+ sites, and how we are continuing to pave the way forward. ✨

Today, we welcomed the fabulous Hugh Ryan for an incredibly insightful and engaging presentation on Brooklyn’s q***r history for the Pride ERG at Columbia Business School. Hugh shared a wealth of knowledge with us, and even brought an original scrapbook from the early 1900s of a q***r Black sailor to show the group! 💙

Hugh Ryan is an award-winning historian, and the author of When Brooklyn Was Q***r, The Women’s House of Detention, and the forthcoming memoir, My Bad: A Personal History of the Q***r Nineties and Beyond. He holds an MFA from Bennington College, where he also teaches, and is a Lead Historian at the new American LGBTQ+ Museum. With the world famous Peppermint, he hosts the podcast Q***r 101. ✨

Q***r history in the making on today’s tour!! 🗣️

Today on tour, as we approached the NYC AIDS Memorial, we came across a rally honoring the 39th anniversary of ACT UP, which was created on this day, March 21, in 1987. Our group stopped to listen, reflect, chant, and shout with the crowd.

It was a powerful reminder that when we are under attack, what do we do?! “STAND UP! FIGHT BACK!”
