BRĪVĀS FORMAS APTAUJA / FREE FORM SURVEY (English follows)

A) Kādus sarīkojumus vēlaties, lai rīko DV namā?
B) Kurās nedēļas dienās un kādās stundās Jums visērtāk sarīkojumus tur apmeklēt?
C) Vai lietojiet Twitter? Draugiem.lv? Latvieši.com? Google+?

This is how readers of The New York Times found out about the Latvians’ “Lāčplēšu diena” victory. Latvia celebrates November 11, but not as the “Armistice Day” of 1918, when World War I ended on the western front. Latvians celebrate Nov. 11 of 1919, when they routed the German and Russian forces threatening Riga under the nominal command of self-styled colonel and prince Pavel Bermondt-Avalov. Bermondt’s forces were soon driven out of Latvia and within two months eastern Latvia was liberated from the Bolsheviks as well.
The New York Times covered Latvia’s 1918-1921 war of independence fairly extensively, though not always consistently. The article’s dateline of “Dorpat, Livonia” is Tartu (or in Latvian “Tērbata”) in Estonia. “Dvina” and “Duena” refer to the river Daugava. “Bildering” refers to the town of Bulduri. “Mitau” is the German name for Jelgava. Prior to the establishment of Latvia’s independence various English language terms were used to refer to its people, including “Letts”, “Letvians” and “Livonians”.
