Ending my family vacation in Bordeaux, France, a city that pairs honey-stone elegance with easy, unhurried living. The food scene here might be the best in the country, yet the tables stay unfussy and the locals genuinely warm and friendly. The streets are pleasantly uncrowded even now, vineyards producing some of the world’s most celebrated wines ring the city, the Atlantic coast is a short drive west, and the Pyrenees aren’t far south. Sea, vine, culture, and mountain, all from one base, and a perfect mix of sophistication and relaxation.

Fun fact: one of the earliest traces of the de Quillacq family is found in the Basilica Saint-Michel de Bordeaux, dating from 1395.

Designed & Delivered: This one started with a questionnaire, the same one we send every client requesting the Caribbean, but this time it was filled out by a 17 year old. Decor preferences. Amenities. Priorities. Her words, not her mom’s. From there we built a shortlist of about ten Caribbean properties that could match what she was actually asking for, not what we assumed a teenager might want.

She picked Cap Juluca, a Belmond hotel in Anguilla. A white sand crescent beach, Greco-Moorish arches, a world-class Guerlain spa and a slower kind of luxury that doesn’t try too hard.

The brief was simple on paper: a beachfront room, four nights, mother & daughter. But the real design challenge was pacing a trip meant to hold something specific. A daughter’s senior year. A mother trying to bottle a little more time before things change. Not a checklist trip. A last one, before the next one looks different.

That’s the part of being Caribbean specialists that doesn’t show up in a spec sheet: knowing which resort, which beach, which island, and which corner of it actually fits the people going, not just the season or the price point.
