KUOMBOKA CEREMONY CANCELLED

The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) have cancelled the 2019 Kuomboka Ceremony of the people of Barotseland. Delivering a press Statement in Limulunga this afternoon at 15:00hrs the Ngambela of Barotseland Mukela Manyando, stated that this year's Kuomboka ceremony has been cancelled and it will not take place.

The cancellation of the ceremony has been attributed to insufficient water levels in the Barotse plains to facilitate the movement of the great 'Nalikwanda' barge from Lealui to Limulunga

Ngambela Manyando says the BRE regrets the cancellation of the annual traditional event, which also attracts regional and international tourists.

Ngambela Mukela said a survey conducted by the Kuomboka/Kufuluhela organising committee headed by Induna Mukwalwakashiko established that the water levels are not good enough for the event.

Kuomboka means moving from the flooded plains to the dry highlands and this depends on the depth of the water level in order to accommodate the Nalikwanda, the Litunga’s royal boat.

This year, Barotseland has been hit by a serious calamity of drought as most crops have dried up in many places including rice fields in the Barotse flood plains.

The month of November is characterized by a number of traditional ceremonies that are almost within the same proximity. The accidental but totally strategic closeness allows both domestic and international tourists that are in dire need of a memorable holiday to learn ways of the local people that are associated with the ceremonies and an exposure to marvelous tourist attractions near them.

In Luangwa, Mbambara traditional ceremony for senior Chief Mburuma of the Nsenga Luzi people is one of the spices that come with the varsity Luangwa River and the breath-taking escarpment that is seemingly hanging to the skies.

Next to Mbambara traditional ceremony is the Chibwela Kumushi ceremony performed within the district by the Soli people under chief Mumpashya. The Solis are also the Lusaka province sweethearts and their hospitality and ways are just as sweet. Let us connect you to them; their delicious traditional dishes and most importantly, the juicy fish that connects the two tribes.

The hills around the two chiefdoms present adventure sprees that makes one exercise unknowingly so there is no need to worry about the food one has taken in excess. Accommodation resorts close the river banks are to die for with their reasonable prices. Break no bank, the river banks are enough beds in the afternoons or the sand itself.

When it is a little dull in Luangwa take the route to Kafue to witness life. Here, life is experienced through the calming gorge, the wide Kafue national park, the deep and blue watered Kafue River and for your evening pleasure, the game safaris and night plays of the Goba people during their week long Kailala traditional ceremony under chieftainess Chiawa. We will not mention the boat cruises.
