Human Connections Increasing empathy across cultures and strengthening communities through responsible travel experiences in Bucerías, México, since 2014.

Human Connections was founded on the notion that seeing the world from a diversity of perspectives inspires vision, innovation, and action towards lasting social change. Our work starts with our parters — artisans, tradespeople, and business owners in western Mexico. We then invite travelers and students to visit and interact with our partners through day tours, seminars, and internships. These ex

periences facilitate profound cross-cultural exchange, and as a result, mutual understanding flourishes and relationships form. We then funnel the profits from our programs directly back to our local partners. While our model is multifaceted, our goal is simple: to foster connections that are transformative, rewarding, and lasting.

Did you know that a single rug can hold the history of an entire lineage? 🧵✨

Meet Rolando and Naty, Zapotec partners who carry the soul of Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, to the coast of Bucerías. Since they were children, they’ve mastered the pedal loom, a craft passed down through generations.

What makes their work truly breathtaking isn’t just the skill—it’s the science of nature. Rolando and Naty use plants and natural ingredients to dye their wool, creating a palette of colors that you won’t find in any factory. Every geometric shape you see in their rugs isn’t just a pattern; it’s a symbol with a deep, ancestral meaning.

By moving their workshop to Bucerías, Rolando and Naty have built a thriving family business, sharing their Zapotec heritage with travelers from around the world.

🌿 Although our regular tour calendar is closed for the low season, the looms are still humming!

Wixárika beadwork (Huichol art) is a deeply spiritual practice, where every color, symbol, and detail carries meaning. Each piece is created bead by bead, telling stories that connect nature, tradition, and identity.

Through her work, Leonarda shares this tradition with travelers, offering not just a demonstration, but a space to learn, reflect, and connect.
