, the company commercializing a process to convert alcohol into synthetic jet fuel, is having a good week.

Energy giant Shell has joined a slew of strategic investors including , Suncor Energy, , and British Airways in the funding round.

Terms of the initial investment, or LanzaJet's valuation after the commitment, were not disclosed.
LanzaJet aims to aide the aviation industry in pursuit of achieving net-zero emissions.

"LanzaJet's technology opens up a new and exciting pathway to produce SAF using an AtJ process and will help address the aviation sector's urgent need for SAF. It demonstrates that the industry can move faster and deliver more when we all work together," said Anna Mascolo, President, Shell Aviation, in a statement. "Provided industry, government and society collaborate on appropriate policy mechanisms and regulations to drive both supply and demand, aviation can achieve net-zero carbon emissions. The strategic fit with LanzaJet is exciting."

Today was the day... almost.

A new era of space exploration was set to begin today, nine years after the final space shuttle mission, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration was finally once again launching astronauts from U.S. soil. On board the Crew Dragon spacecraft that sits atop the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket are veteran astronauts Robert Behnken and Doug Harley. New moves. Production of Lucid Motors' Lucid Air is on track to for its global reveal in New York in April 2020. Meanwhile, you can reserve your own Lucid Air now for $1,000, and the Lucid team is hard at work, saying this week “We are building 80 beta prototypes of the Lucid Air right here at our Silicon Valley headquarters. Most of these cars — highly representative of the production Air — are designated for exhaustive testing. We’ll send video updates as we tune software for traction and stability control, braking, and steering systems; perform body and chassis durability testing; and confirm crash simulations with actual tests”. Can’t wait.

In an important move, ridesharing company Lyft has announced its Job Access Program this week, an initiative that will offer people “making their way through the employment pipeline” free or deeply discounted rides to and from job interviews, a new work place within three weeks of employment (until they get their first paycheck), or professional training programs. Lyft will work together with various nonprofits such as Goodwill, United Way, and the USO taking part in the program. The move signals Lyft’s latest effort to offer value to its customers and their communities beyond the scope of its traditional services.

The program arrives on the heels of an in-house study by the rideshare giant found that 44 percent of all their rides start or end in low income areas. As a result, those who will benefit from this program will include those in low income areas, 18 to 24-year-olds looking for their first job, veterans, refugees, people with disabilities, and also formerly incarcerated people.

For those more fortunate, Lyft is also inviting donations to help support the program’s operation, providing a better chance for those in need to support themselves. You can check out its dedicated page at LYFT.com/round-up if you wish to make a donation

This week a team of experts at NASA Earth’s Ames Research Center will be working alongside a team from Uber this week to run computer simulation tests of future air travel over major cities and urban environments. The tests will be conducted in order to get data on ‘certain things we already know and others we still need to invent,’ according to the space agency. The work is being done under NASA’s Urban Air Mobility program, which aims to pave the way for future drone deliveries and small vehicle air transportation over cities.

This comes after NASA signed a second space act agreement last year to further explore concepts and technologies related to urban air mobility (UAM) to ensure a safe and efficient system for future air transportation in populated areas.

No pedals, no steering wheel. General Motors is getting ready to test a supposedly fully autonomous version of their Chevrolet Bolt, called the Cruise AV, by 2019. In order to test it, the company has filed a petition to the U.S. NHTSA to allow some changes to safety rules.

There is good reason for the safety petition to be taken under serious consideration as the Cruise AV is significantly different from other driverless cars currently near or at market. This one doesn’t even allow you to drive it, as it doesn’t have any steering wheel and pedals. Thoughts?
