Swipe left to see the incredible view from inside this traditional house in AlWajh harbor!
A year ago I took my mom and kids on a road trip to the northwest coast of Saudi Arabia and one of the highlights of the trip was exploring the old town and port of AlWajh.
As we were wandering around the balad during sunset hours this house with its bright turquoise doors caught our interest.
We found the small door adjacent to the large wooden one unlocked and went in to discover the interior. A stunning view from the third level rooftop revealed itself from behind the turquoise Roshan, which acted as natural air conditioners back in the day.
The Maghreb prayer was being called from the harbor’s Al-Shareef mosque as the last fishing boats were returning to the port.
Alwajh served as a key entry port for goods coming in from Egypt and other Red Sea ports, and it was, as its Arabic name implies, for many the “face” of Arabia, as the first entry post for many pilgrims and merchants.
The traditional houses are built from coral Stone and the colors and style of the rawashaan and mashrabiyat are similar to those found in AlBalad Jeddah, Yanbu Albalad and Umluj.
The old Town of Alwajh is particularly charming, with preserved houses up to 300 years old overlooking the Red Sea and the ancient seaport.
The residents of these houses some gorgeous views to enjoy don’t you think?
