It’s our 13th birthday today! This is the very first press we ever got, back in October 2013. Rifling through the archives today I came across our hilarious early attempts at marketing, including a silly reworked 70s era flyer that I made in Photoshop, fine hand-drawn illustrations for postcards advertising our Weird Tales of the West Village tour, a card from an early Seaport tour in which a well meeting Bowne print shop employee illustrated what they thought a rat fight might look like (it was usually rat versus dog, not rat versus rat, but I appreciate the sentiment) and a big spread in Rue Morgue magazine that I totally forgot about. In a way today has been as much about mourning the loss of print media and “things to do” listings in the city (RIP) as it is about celebrating our anniversary. It’s been a wild and magical few years and I can’t believe we’ve lasted this long and weathered as many literal and figurative storms as we have. We’re celebrating tonight and all month long because what’s luckier than the number 13?
