The solution to my problems may not be this honeymoon itinerary to French Polynesia, but I should probably check 👇🏼

Marissa & Tanner came to me torn on where to go for their honeymoon. Marissa had been to Europe enough times to know it would always be there. Tanner had never really left the US. Together they wanted something that felt once-in-a-lifetime. Not just a fun trip, but a destination you rarely get to visit more than once.

French Polynesia kept coming up, but with no frame of reference for what it looks like on the ground (which islands, hotels, what to do), they needed an expert to help them narrow down their options.

Here's one of the options I proposed:

✈️ Fly into Papeete, Tahiti

⛴️ Ferry to Moorea

🌺 5 nights at Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa

Their garden pool bungalow is a private retreat that has a plunge pool on a spacious terrace. The resort sits between Moorea's two iconic bays, so they get both sunrise and sunset views from the property.

I arranged for them a guided ATV tour through Opunohu Bay, stopping at ancient Polynesian temples, the agricultural school, and the local fruit juice factory tucked into the pineapple fields. They'll spend a morning on the water whale watching, searching for humpback whales on their seasonal migration with the chance to swim alongside them 🐋

✈️ Short flight to Bora Bora

⛴️ Boat transfer to Hotel

🌺 3 nights at Le Bora Bora

They’ll have a dream overwater bungalow with direct lagoon access, a furnished sundeck with gazebo, a glass viewing panel at the foot of the bed so they can watch the marine life below, and views of the iconic Mount Otemanu. This beautiful resort has such an authentic Polynesian design they’ll always remember. On their first night they'll have a 3-course dinner at one of the resorts amazing restaurants. The next day, they’ll enjoy a lagoon cruise where they’ll swim through coral gardens, snorkel with stingrays and blacktip reef sharks. They’ll end with a traditional Polynesian motu picnic lunch on a private island.

I shouldn't be saying this, but these are some of the exact tools I use behind the scenes to plan every honeymoon 👇🏼

8 years in this industry means I've tried a lot of tools. Some were a waste of time. Some changed the way I work entirely. These 3 made the permanent list, and two of them you can start using right now on your own.

1️⃣ Sherpa Travel Requirements
Before any destination gets locked in, I check entry requirements at this website first. Sherpa gives real-time visa requirements, passport validity rules, health documentation needs, and travel advisories for any country in the world. It's free, it takes about 30 seconds, and it has saved my clients from some very stressful situations. Finding out your passport expires too soon or that you needed a visa you didn't get (at the airport) is not something anyone should experience on their honeymoon.

2️⃣ Rome2rio
A lifesaver for multi-stop honeymoons. Type in 2 or more destinations and Rome2rio maps out every possible way to get between them such as by flight, train, ferry, or private car with estimated times and costs. I use it to make sure the routing between destinations actually makes sense so no couple spends half their honeymoon in transit. You can use it too while you're in the research phase to get a realistic sense of how everything connects.

3️⃣ TravelJoy
This one is just for my clients 😉 Once everything is booked, I build out a completely custom itinerary in TravelJoy where every confirmation, transfer detail, restaurant reservation, and hotel check-in time lives in one beautifully organized place. No digging through a chaotic email inbox in a foreign country. Everything is right there, day by day, in the exact order they need it. Handing this over to a client is honestly one of my favorite moments in the whole process.

POV: You just found your new honeymoon planning bestie 😍

Hi! I’m Madison. I’m the founder and travel advisor behind Travel by Madison, a boutique travel advisory specializing in personalized honeymoons and romantic getaways. Next month marks TBM’s 8th birthday, and I’ve had the joy of helping hundreds of couples plan the honeymoon of their dreams.

I’m the person who gets way too excited about finding the perfect boutique hotel, tracking down hidden gem restaurants, and making sure every little detail comes together seamlessly. While you’re enjoying your engagement, I’m behind the scenes researching, planning, and coordinating so you don’t have to.

Fun fact: I actually started my business during the third trimester of my first pregnancy (yes, you read that right 😅). Hot take: some of yall are wasting hours Googling 'best honeymoon destinations 2026” while you could just be having an expert match you to the right one in a fraction of the time.

My client, Jessie, had already planned plenty of great trips on her own, but then she got engaged and started planning her honeymoon. She was stressing trying to figure out the best hotels in Rome, Tuscany, and Lake Como (there’s a TON!), which neighborhoods are actually right for foodies and wanderers like them, where to stay in Switzerland, figuring out how it all fits together, etc. It was just too much.

She came to me overwhelmed and a little defeated. She knew what she wanted the trip to feel like, but translating that into actual hotels, neighborhoods, & logistics while simultaneously planning a wedding was a lot to ask of anyone.

When I say I want a Christmas honeymoon in Dublin, London, and Paris…this is what I mean 😍🎄

Not gonna lie, I'm a little jealous of my most recent couple. These hotels? This itinerary? A Christmas honeymoon in 3 of Europe's most iconic cities? I am SO excited for them and I may or may not have looked up flights for myself after finishing this proposal 🤣

J + T came to me with a dream and zero idea where to start. They'd never been to Europe, wanted Christmas markets, incredible food, culture, and walkable hotels with restaurants right outside the door but not a jam-packed itinerary. They wanted to soak it in, not sprint through it. And with both working full time, the research, bookings, logistics, and "do we need to apply for something before we travel?" questions, they needed someone to handle all of it.

Here's what I created:
🇮🇪 3 nights at The Shelbourne, Dublin — right on St. Stephen's Green, classic and intimate, exceptional dining, and steps from everything (including a certain Guinness experience 👀)

🚄 Train to Paris

🇫🇷 4 nights at Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal — boutique and beautifully quiet, steps from the Louvre and Palais Royal gardens, with two high-floor balcony options.

✈️ Back to Dublin

🇮🇪 1 final night at InterContinental Dublin — the best 5-star near the airport, private balcony, garden terrace view. Departure morning should feel easy, not stressful.

Every hotel was chosen for the same reasons: walkable, boutique over corporate, a genuine sense of place, and great food and drink. I pushed hard for balconies and meaningful views in every city because that was their #1 priority — and they deserved it.

7 years planning honeymoons and I still cringe when I hear that a bride has spent 30+ hours researching to avoid hiring help… and she still feels more confused and ever.

I just booked for my clients’ honeymoon this September and I was way too excited about it. 😍 It’s one of my favorite Belmond properties and I’ve been dying to book it for the right couple.

Here’s why this hotel is so special for a honeymoon:

It’s tucked into the mountains of Deià with stone villas, terraced views, citrus trees, and that quiet, old-world romance that feels worlds away from a typical beach resort.

But what makes it really stand out? The art and culture.

Honeymoon planning advice I’d give if I wasn’t afraid to hurt your feelings (from a honeymoon planner of 7 years) 👇🏼

1️⃣ If you’re planning a $100K+ wedding, why are you trusting Instagram, Google, or TikTok to plan your honeymoon?

You hired a wedding planner.
You vetted photographers.
You toured venues.

But for the trip that celebrates the start of your marriage, you’re researching a thousand hotels, looking at reels, and hoping for the best?

Your honeymoon deserves the same level of intention as your wedding day.

2️⃣ If you’re booking through third-party sites or direct with the hotel without an advisor, you’re just another reservation number.

Expedia. Costco. Even booking direct.

To the hotel? You’re a confirmation code.

When my clients arrive, the hotel knows it’s their honeymoon, what room matters most, what experiences they care about, and that they’re VIPs through our partnership.

That’s how you get prioritized upgrades, thoughtful amenities, and experiences that feel personal, not transactional.
