Pachamamita Designs

Pachamamita Designs latina femme creations-celebrate identity-borderlands-indigenous solidarity- decolonized fair trade A fusion, a hybrid, much like my own bi-cultural experience.

My creations are "re-mixes" of authentic traditional textile work with urban street wear. It's a way for me to embrace my culture and my roots in a way that also honors my present day experience and ideally to share that with others coming from similar backgrounds. I am particularly drawn to Latin American indigenous textiles because of my Colombian heritage. I choose to integrate these textiles i

nto my work because I have a lot of respect for the hard working hands, most often women's hands, that are responsible for creating these beautiful woven creations that carry so many stories, culture, and history. Pachamamita visions include story-telling and activism through long-term fair-trade relationships with the women and communities where these textiles are made. Through these relationships, resources can be shared with the communities and their stories can be shared with the rest of the world.

With one unjust event after another it's hard for me to find it appropriate to promote my work. And then I'm reminded that it is important that we come together to celebrate art that affirms the resilience of Brown & Black communities. I'm really excited & honored to be a part of the pop-up shop portion of the Browntourage programming at the Brooklyn Museum 1st Saturday—one of my favorite monthly community events in Brooklyn! There's a lot of amazing exhibits up right now, Kehinde Wiley (whose art is on this flyer), Zanele Muholi, Chitra Ganesh, & Basquiat's notebooks. Peep the flyer for all of the details ✊❤️✊

Pachamamita table at the Handmakers Market this past Sunday! Limited edition premiered & still available! These pieces were made from a patch I purchased directly from the artisan who stiched it, in Iquitos, Peru. Shipibo textiles are hand embroidered works of art that reflect the communities' relationship with ayahuasca & other plant medicines. They often depict different "icaros" which are the songs sang during ceremonies. The patterns also reflect the ayahuasca vine & the chakruna leaves that the vine is mixed with to make the medicinal brew.
