‏When I was stuck in Fiji after missing my flight to Australia, I decided to explore until my next flight.

‏While there, I noticed a unique phenomenon I hadn’t seen anywhere else: women wearing their natural Afros to the workplace without any extensions.

‏🌺🌺🌺It made me wonder why the wig, relaxer, and hair-straightening industries haven’t taken over Fiji.

‏🌟🌟🌟Seeing both young and older women embrace their natural hair at work was so beautiful and inspiring that it made me want to create this video.

‏❓❓❓What do you think? Should we start wearing our natural Afros to our corporate jobs, too?

Did Ethiopian Jews fast on the 9th of Av? 📜✨
The short answer: it depends on which historical period you’re talking about!
For generations, the traditions of the Beta Israel community in Ethiopia were distinct from what many of us know today.

In ancient times, the custom was to fast for the first 17 days of the month of Av—but only for half-days, from morning until noon. This fast was kept to remember the sins of King Manasseh and the events that led to the destruction of the First Temple.
So, how did standard Tisha B’Av customs enter the community?
About 100 years ago, European scholars (like Joseph Halévy and Jacques Faitlovitch) traveled to Ethiopia, met the community, and shared details about the destruction of the Second Temple and the traditional 9 Days of Av.
So next time someone asks—you’ll know the history is far richer and more nuanced!
