Big changes could be coming to one of Manhattan’s busiest streets! 🚍
New York City is moving forward with plans to transform 34th Street into a dedicated bus priority corridor between Third Avenue and Ninth Avenue, aiming to make public transportation faster, safer, and more reliable for more than 28,000 daily riders.
The proposed 34th Street Busway would prioritize buses while improving traffic flow, supporting freight deliveries, maintaining emergency vehicle access, and creating a more organized streetscape in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.
City officials say the project builds on the success of existing busways across NYC, where bus speeds have increased by as much as 60% and traffic-related injuries have dropped by up to 45%.
The redesign is part of New York’s broader effort to improve public transit and reduce congestion in some of the city’s busiest corridors, helping commuters move through Midtown more efficiently every day.
