Along the Alentejo Wine Route, estates like Herdade da Malhadinha Nova and São Lourenço do Barrocal set the pace for slowing down.

Think wine, olive oil, and honey tastings, picnics laid out in the vines, hot air ballooning at sunrise, horseback riding, cooking classes, spa afternoons, stargazing, and pool days that stretch into evening.

The sweet spot is September through October, when the weather softens and harvest is underway for both grapes and olives.

April and May work beautifully too, with mild temperatures ahead of summer heat and wildflowers covering the plains.
