At 4:20 AM on Wednesday July 16th, 1980 I came into the world.
Soft light and brand-new lungs.

Note to myself:
You couldn’t have imagined:
the vineyards, the valleys, the passport stamps, the broken hearts,
the laughter echoing in kitchens,
the quiet mornings you’d one day treasure.

45 years in—what a life.
What a journey.
It hasn’t been easy, but you’re still here.

I’ve been resting here—truly resting—for the first time in a long while. In a garden built with love, effort, and the quiet labor of transition.

Respite is a rare and necessary luxury—one we often give more freely than we allow ourselves to receive.
Let me say that again:
Respite is a rare and necessary luxury.

Why is it that something so vital can feel so indulgent?
And how often are we given the opportunity—or the permission—to truly receive it?
To create it for others?

I’ve been thinking a lot about how nourishment shows up in unexpected ways. Not just in food or place, but in the pauses between.
These are the kinds of questions I’m sitting with—and beginning to explore more intentionally with Dirty Radish and myself.
