⚓️ HOW TO SPOT A “CREDIT CARD CAPTAIN” VS. A REAL CAPTAIN 😂🚤

💳 Credit Card Captain: “I bought the boat, therefore I am the captain.”
⚓️ Real Captain: “What’s the weather? Fuel? Float plan? Safety gear? VHF? Navigation? Everyone briefed?”

💳 Knows where the Bluetooth connects. 🎶
⚓️ Knows where the fire extinguishers, PFDs, EPIRB and emergency equipment are. 🛟

💳 Checks the cooler. 🧊😂
⚓️ Checks the engines, bilge, batteries, fuel AND weather.

💳 Thinks horsepower makes the captain. 🔥
⚓️ Knows judgment, preparation and seamanship do.

And here’s the best part: you don’t need credentials behind your name to practice GREAT seamanship. Some of the finest boaters I’ve met simply respect the water, know their vessel, stay prepared and never let ego outrank safety.

Anyone can buy horsepower. You can’t swipe a credit card for experience. 😂💳🚫

Two things:

It takes a good while to be able to accurately identify vessels at night based exclusively on their Nav Lights (Yellow tow lights should be added to this panel)

It's even more difficult because one or more of those Nav Lights is often extinguished.

To the "Go Fast" night runners: I realize your stern light may make it marginally more difficult for you to see at night. Extinguishing your stern light makes it MUCH more difficult for OTHER vessels to understand what you are. {My fav example: The fireworks have just concluded, and the Go Fast folks are racing home to top off their cocktails. Stern lights extinguished. The chances of one of those boats climbing up the stern of another are pretty darn good, since without a stern light, the lead boat is nothing but a black hole on the water}

They say 'if you don't know how to tie a cleat hitch, more is better'. Not so much. Yes, it will probably hold. But when it's time to untie it, if it's been stressed, it's very likely that you'll have a very difficult time untying it (as in, it may require a knife)
